Today there are saints who can answer the prayers of humanity, and I personally have witnessed some miracles; also, there are people who have a preponderance of elemental nature in their human framework.
When these seemingly human, but really elemental people pass over at the time of so-called death, they are ministered to by elemental beings in nature’s consciousness, in the same way that the average man receives attention from helpers on the other side.
I have been acquainted for some years with a great elemental teacher, who has given instruction to a friend regarding his work. When I went out of my body to meet this elemental being, it asked me not to reveal to my friend the source under which he was working. I was then informed that he was working under the consciousness of the Christ, and that his work was to pilot through the “Land of Virtues” those beings who were more elemental than human.
Fortunately, some few of our religious instructors have realized that these great elemental helpers stand in the Presence, and devote their time and labor for the benefit of those humans who are in the likeness of their nature.
Out of my body, this elemental being told me the process by which the newcomer is aided through the Land of Virtues. When the average man passes into elemental life after death, it is new to him and it takes some time before he can adjust himself to his new surroundings. He discovers that this earth has really been a tomb and, according to his development, his progress is rapid or slow in attaining again the consciousness of nature, which he passed through before he was born on the earth plane.
Around our earth are spheres of illusion, or purgatorial states, which the normal, moral man easily passes through. On this earth plane our great avatars have given us moral principles which will provide greater security for us in a future life if we follow them. There are also saints, and beings in the elemental world of nature, who answer the prayers of those human beings who are largely elemental.
An elemental being, such as a sylph, can easily enter into a religious image and cause it seemingly to open and close its eyes, so that it can be noticed by those at their devotions before it. I have seen this happen in a church in Naples.
The Yoga student often associates himself with a sylph or sylphid, and many holy men in the East have been married to sylphids. To enter into a relationship with a being of the element of air, the student must go through a severe discipline for purity of body and mind, for the sylphs quickly analyze his thought atmosphere, and will have nothing to do with foulness of any kind. In one of the ancient occult societies of the past, when a member had attained to purity of thought and cleanliness of the person, he was symbolically married to one of these elemental beings.
A sylph or sylphid will say to the student, “Seek to purify your mind, so that my vibration may pass through you.” This is a most difficult process, but he must do so in order to hold contact with a being whose intelligence covers such a wonderful range of knowledge.
It is easy to carry on a conversation with a gnome of the mineral kingdom, for he belongs to a far lower range of vibration than the other elementals and it is easy to harmonize with his consciousness. When the student contacts the intelligences of air, he passes into an astounding range of beauty, full of loveliness and gentleness. These people of the air always exhort the student to pursue the quest of Truth, and to be ennobled by the spirit. Many of the great teachers of the past have found rest and peace in an association with one of these lovely beings of the element of air. By manipulating mind stuff matter, they can present themselves in any form of beauty which they think pleasing to their “loved ones.” But this is dealing with that higher intelligence of air.
As above, so below! There is the same elemental intelligence in the lower realms, and there are beings of evil most wonderful to behold. St. Anthony and his experiences with these lower elemental beings has evoked compassion and pity for his sufferings.
The higher sylphids register the brilliance of intelligence and love, as well as of hardness. They have an entirely different point of view from ours. The sylphs are like children, having no knowledge of what we term sin, and they speak what they know, not what they think. They would be looked upon by certain sections of the earth as immoral. They measure people by the purity or impurity of their bodies and atmospheres. You can often see an elemental angel of death by the bedside of a dying child, and by the robe which the angel wears you can tell the child’s degree of elemental constitution.
People often do not understand the types of elemental humanity about them. There are misfits in society and by their intuition they quickly recognize anyone who understands them. I know one very elemental person who has the habit of speaking the truth, and society does not like to meet anyone who speaks the truth. She told me that when she spoke the truth about herself people did not believe her.
These elemental humans have a great perception of beauty and produce beautiful creations in literature and art, if they carry through what they undertake. They also have a wonderful power of attacking anything that they plan to do, but they are apt to lose their enthusiasm and fail to carry a thing to completion. They underestimate their power and are very sensitive to any criticism of their work. It is their sensitivity towards beauty that ensouled evil will always attack. They are very wise in their day and generation, although not children of Mammon.
If a person feels he is a square peg in a round hole, and cannot adjust himself to his environment, let him pray to God through nature and, if he is worthy, the saints in nature may answer his call. A being who has gained God Realization (nature’s will) can aid those of both natures (human and elemental) who call upon him. I have known a saint who died in the Roman faith to answer a prayer in ten minutes time, and I also know of a Mohammedan saint who answered a prayer that he should appear to a seeker, in five minutes.
We read of the miracles of the past, but we seldom perceive the miracles which are being performed every day in our midst by God-realizing men and women. In this connection we must not forget that the force works both ways, and that envy, hatred, and anger quickly contact our atmosphere with those powerful forces of nature and mind which exist in the lower densities beneath our feet.
What you evoke outwardly into your environment will evoke its reflection. The one thing most abhorrent to the higher elemental forces of nature is hypocrisy. There is a great secret to be found in nature which, when tapped by the student, produces a tremendous flow of energy. It is a consciousness in which he can rest and find peace, and it gives a greater urge to seek a knowledge of Truth. It is something which the student keeps secret in his heart. It is consciousness of truth and beauty, of power to discern loveliness in things which the world passes by. It is consciousness of the infinite and great Reality, which is so near, consciousness of its nearness, its love, and its beauty. But this secret remains hidden in the heart of man.
We look upon nature mostly with our normal vision, yet every part of nature has its overshadowing form. The trees, the rocks, and the flowers we see easily, but their overshadowing forms, their true beauty, only present themselves when we have gone deeper in our quest for the higher realization. The devas say that all things in nature have their higher counterpart. This higher counterpart is a radiation, or atmosphere beautiful to behold, and when seen for the first time by the student, he perceives in it the manifestation or vibration of the spirit.
When a person passes over at death, he perceives first the things which he saw upon earth, but, as he gradually evolves in perception, he sees the higher counterpart projection of these things. He sees the real tree, whereas before he saw only its objective vehicle. He also notices in the helpers who minister to him, a radiation which he had never perceived in mortal man, and in time by this radiation he measures their attainment into the light.
A Yogi, returning from a trip out of his body, shudders at the darkness of this world as he again enters his body. If man could only remember what he has witnessed when he leaves his body during deep sleep, he would strive for knowledge and truth, so that in the future he might no longer be chained by the law of cause and effect in this sphere of illusion called “the earth.”
But the seeker must not forego the quest for adventure, for this will stimulate him to enter upon a voyage of discovery in the quest for Truth.
