The Egyptian goddess Thmei, or truth, was adopted by the Greeks as the Titan named Θέμις Themis. In Ancient Greek, Themis means:
- Ancient law
- Divine justice
In Greek mythology, Themis could see the future (like her son Prometheus, which means “who sees ahead”). As such, she presided over the oracles, such as at Delphoi (Delphi).
She was married to Zeus (Jupiter), the father of the gods, and was his chief advisor.
It was she who gave the first nourishment to the newly born baby Apollo (the Solar God / Christ of the Greeks):
“Themis, one of the elder goddesses, gave him ambrosia and nectar, the food of the immortal gods. As soon as he had tasted that divine food the infant sprang from the arms of his nurse. He spoke, and all Delos blossomed and gleamed with golden light.”
Themis symbolizes our own inner Divine Mother. It is she who advocates for us in the divine courts of cosmic justice.
