Once a egotistical defect that is passed from life to life is eliminated how much if any karmic debt is eliminated?

Usually, karma related to specific egos must be paid before such karmic egos can be disintegrated, since the Divine Mother is demanding of Her child. If She were not, then we would continue to commit the same errors over and over again.
For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully I found that in reality God was the seeker and I the sought. -Bayazid al-Bastami
