I have read that we get 3,000 lives to self-realize or 108 lives like on the Buddha's Necklace.

How many physical bodies do we get? How many lives? How many returns to this earth? I don't understand.

So, after however many lives we go to Hell to be recycled and experience the Second Death?

Is 108 a Kabbalistic number? (9?) Is 3,000 a Kabbalistic number?

What we get is 3000 cycles of existences, and 108 human lives per cycle. That's a total of 324,000 human physical bodies.

Each cycle consists of evolving through the mineral, plant, and animal kingdoms, then spending 108 lives as a human, then devolving back through the animal, plant, and mineral kingdoms. This devolution processes through hell and ends in the second death. Thus, we experience hell after every 108 lives (depending on our Karma), and can go through that whole process 3000 times. Does that make sense?

I have provided two links below to chapters in Hell, Devil, and Karma that explain this further.

Note that not all of those cycles will necessarily take place on planet earth.

And the numbers do have Kabbalistic significance, but they also have a literal value. I have provided a link below to a forum post that explains this further.
