Dear gnostic instructors,

I have been studying with Gnostic Radio and Samael Aun Weor for over 2 years and have received an uncountable number of gifts, insights, dreams, visions... ect. Above all I have come to understand that meditation is the blood, the life force, the water to initiate and sustain the development of our seed. I know this...
Why is it that every time I sit to comprehend my life, day, hour, minute, act, thought or feeling for any length of time, there is an immense aversion to the act of meditation?

Is there a practical approach to dissolving this aversion?

How can I develop a steady practice of self observation?

Seriously and Sincerely,
J

It is important to recall the force of resistance and counter-transference as described in The Revolution of the Dialectic. If you haven't already, it would be good to review that text regarding these terms.

The ego is threatened through the psychological work; that is why it exerts tremendous efforts in order to prevent its destruction. Whenever we initiate spiritual practice and endeavor to remember our Inner Being, we are working with the first force: Affirmation. However, it is inevitable that we will encounter the second force: that of Negation or resistance, the psychic counter-transference of the ego that fights to prevent its annihilation.

The solution to overcoming resistance is raising our level of being, which necessitates a particular conscious shock within our psyche. This is the third force: Reconciliation, comprehension, or the superlative conscious analysis of the Being. This is represented by the musical scale, or the transition from Do (instinct), Re (emotions), and Mi (intellect) to Fa (awakened consciousness). Not only must we awaken the fourth note and conquer our three brains (demonstrated by the lower three notes of the scale), but we must know how to sustain the note Fa and raise it to a higher level, so as to achieve Sol (superior emotion), La (superior mind) and, after another conscious shock, Si (conscious will).

To put it simply, the solution to overcoming aversion is comprehension. When you comprehend how meditation truly benefits your soul, you will naturally gravitate towards the practice and will work in a consistent way in initiating self-observation (the note Fa) again and again. Even if there is tremendous resistance in the mind to avoid spiritual exercises, your cognizance born from direct comprehension of the benefits of meditation will push you to perform it, and thereby create a conscious shock within your interior. However, if you give in to resistance and do not practice, then one descends along the musical scale and does not achieve anything.

P.D. Ouspensky, The Fourth Way

The reason why it is necessary to understand the Law of Seven is that it plays a very important part in all events. If there were no Law of Seven everything in the world would go to its final conclusion, but because of this law everything deviates…

…We can observe in human activity how people start to do one thing and after some time do quite a different thing, still calling it by the first name without noticing that things have completely changed. But in personal work, particularly in work connected to this system, we must learn how to keep these octaves from deviating, how to keep a straight line. Otherwise we shall not find anything.

Therefore, this work is about initiating and sustaining the conscious shock. It is this very shock of direct cognizant experience that illuminates the soul and inspires the disciple to cultivate his discipline. You will develop comprehension, inspiration and self-observation when you see from practical life how they are essential for your well being. If there is no comprehension of this fact, then spiritual discipline becomes a dead thing.

The six perfections or paramitas of Mahayana Buddhism also demonstrate this principle. Generosity, the aspiration to achieve spiritual liberation from suffering for oneself and others, initiates the path towards realization. Ethics nourishes this aspiration by cultivating right action (the essence of self-remembrance), and is protected by the armor of patience (consisting of anecdotes from the spiritual teaching as well as comprehension of suffering). When you comprehend how to generate, develop and protect your longings through ethics and patience, then you will enact joyful perseverance (diligence) in meditation, whereby you can achieve true wisdom (pranja). This is the work of conscious shocks within our psychological musical scale and the path of sustaining the notes.

When you understand that meditation benefits you, you will practice it. If not, then the mind will easily dissuade you. If you have been meditating for years but still do not feel a natural joy and longing to practice, then it is a sign that you need to re-evaluate your work and approach. Joyful perseverance is the result of comprehension. We should feel invigorated from our practices, not bogged down by them. What this necessitates is a change of attitude, which results from striking the psychic note Fa within our consciousness, moment after moment. When you see your goal and know what you want in life, you will fight for it valiantly. But if you do not know where you are going and do not see the benefits of practice, you will not cultivate discipline.

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.
