Dear Instructors

Thank you for all of your answers to our questions.

I have a couple of questions regarding the email newsletter entitled 'Peace'.

1) With respect to the picture of Athena/Minerva is there anywhere we can go to understand the meaning of the picture more deeply? For example Athena has a broach/image of someone's head on her breast - do we know who/what this represents and why it is placed there?

2) With respect to peace - I think I perceive that violence begets violence. Nonetheless is it not true to say that all actions have consequences and there are certain actions, which when performed, will result in violence of one form or another? For example we have recently had a discussion on violence in this Question and Answer section entitled "Physical self defence".

This is what, in part, an instructor posted in reply:
Samael Aun Weor: Well, this is clear! You, as head of the family, are with your wife, with your children and everything, inside a house and all of a sudden a group of bandits come to attack, what would you do? Are you going to let your wife and children be killed?

Audience: I will beat them...

Samael Aun Weor: You will not bless them while they are raping your woman and killing your children; or are you going to say: "Oh, please bandits, look, don't do that, because karma will punish you." No! You have to defend your woman, your children, and the whole world...

Audience: Use the same weapons that they are using?

Samael Aun Weor: Your duty is to fight and even die in the fight; fighting, like the men in the battlefield. That is what you have to do.

If I understand Samael Aun Weor this demonstrates that using violence in defence is not only permissible but a 'beneficial' action in certain circumstances. I have heard also - in a lecture - that there is good mixed with evil and evil mixed with good i.e. someone could use the excuse of defending his family to feed his anger/hatred ego in the manner of his defence (although it would be 'good' to defend one's family).

May I ask if you have any comments.

Thank you.
