Head shaving
In judeo christian tradition long hair symbolises chastity. And also in the lecture about hebrew character “resh” it is written that traditionally adulterer’s heads were shaved. But in the buddhist tradition head shaving has a special role and also the egyptians shaved their heads. In the book of job we read job shaving his head after losing everything he had. What does the buddhist and egyptian tradition symbolise with shaved heads and what is the meaning of job shaving his head ?
A shaved head, in the Buddhist tradition, symbolizes renunciation of the world. Job renounced everything too, including his pain, in order to resurrect.
For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully I found that in reality God was the seeker and I the sought. -Bayazid al-Bastami
