Samael Aun Weor

His name is Hebrew סמאל און ואור and is pronounced “sam-ayel on vay-or.” You may not have heard of him, but Samael Aun Weor changed the world.

In 1950, in his first two books, he became the first person to reveal the esoteric secret hidden in all the world’s great religions. This outraged the official "church," who accused him of “offending the public and healing the ill,” and had him put in prison. Nevertheless, he did not stop.

Between 1950 and 1977 — merely twenty-seven years — Samael Aun Weor wrote more than sixty books on difficult subjects like consciousness, kabbalah, physics, tantra, meditation, etc., in which he deftly exposed the singular root of all knowledge, that he called Gnosis, from the Greek word for "knowledge from experience." Simultaneously, he inspired millions of people across the entire span of Latin America: stretching across twenty countries and an area of more than 21,000,000 square kilometers, founding schools everywhere, even in places without electricity or post offices.

During those twenty-seven years, he walked the streets to sell his books door to door, but did not reveal he was the author, and remained anonymous for most of his life.

As he gradually became well-known, he experienced all the extremes that humanity could give him, from adoration to death threats.

In spite of the eventual popularity of his books and lectures, he rejected followers, refused recognitions, walked away from accolades, and lived very modestly. He had presidents and peasants as friends, yet remained a mystery to them all.

When one reflects on the effort and will it requires to perform even day to day tasks, it is astonishing to consider the herculean efforts required to accomplish what he did in such a short time. But, there is a reason: he was a man who knew who he was, and what he had to do.

A true example of compassion and selfless service, Samael Aun Weor dedicated the whole of his life to freely helping anyone and everyone find the path out of suffering. His mission was to show all of humanity the universal source of all spiritual traditions, which he did not only through his writings and lectures, but also through his actions.

Unlike many “spiritual” writers, he condemned the cult of personality, and turned away those who would worship or follow him. He said:

I do not follow anyone, therefore no one should follow me...

I, the one who writes this book, am not anyone’s master, and I beg people to not follow me. I am an imperfect human just like anyone else, and it is an error to follow someone who is imperfect. Let every one follow their “I am" [their Innermost]... 

I do not want to receive visitors. Unquestionably, I am nothing more than a postman, a courier, a man that delivers a message...

It would be the breaking point of silliness for you to come from your country to the capital city of Mexico with the only purpose of visiting a vulgar postman, an employee that delivered you a letter in the past... Why would you waste your money for that? Why would you visit a simple courier, a miserable postman? It is better for you to study the message, the written teachings delivered in the books...  

I have not come to form any sect, or one more belief, nor am I interested in the schools of today, or the particular beliefs of anyone! ... 

We are not interested in anyone’s money, nor are we interested in monthly fees, or temples made out of brick, cement or clay, because we are conscious visitors in the cathedral of the soul and we know that wisdom is of the soul.

Flattery tires us, praise should only belong to our Father (who is in secret and watches over us minutely). 

We are not in search of followers; all we want is for each person to follow his or her self—their own internal master, their sacred Innermost—because he is the only one who can save and glorify us. 

I do not follow anyone, therefore no one should follow me... 

We do not want any more comedies, pretenses, false mysticism, or false schools. What we want now are living realities; we want to prepare ourselves to see, hear, and touch the reality of those truths...
