Greek σοφία, "wisdom," from a root that means "clever, skillful, intelligent, wise." Equivilent to the Hebrew Chokmah. Sophia is divine wisdom innate to our consciousness, which must be liberated from the conditioned state we suffer within. Therefore, Sophia is also Eurydice, Helen, Guinivere, and thousands of other mythological symbols.

"And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this σοφία sophia, and these mighty works?" -Matthew 13

"And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with σοφία sophia: and the grace of God was upon him." -Luke 2
