Although this Sanskrit name is usually interpreted to mean "lord of creatures" as an epithet for a "creator god," the esoteric (and more accurate) meaning is "Lord of Procreation," since प्रजापति is composed of praja "procreative powers" and pati "lord, master." In general, this title refers to any divinity who creates life.
