Three Kinds of Love, Self-love, Intolerance, Criticism, Transvaluation
Let us now begin our lecture for tonight. I hope that everyone pays maximum attention, for the good of the great cause.
Unquestionably, we should be interested in working esoterically on ourselves, if indeed, we really want a radical transformation.
Love for the Work is Required
However, it is not possible for there to be a real conjunction with esoteric work in our lives, if we do not first love the work. We need to have a true affection, a true fondness, for the Gnostic esoteric work. Only in this way could a conjunction of our lives with esoteric work be realized. As long as this conjunction with work has not been performed, undoubtedly, we would be unable to integrally comprehend it. It is required to feel affection for these studies.
Many people come to know the teaching, come to understand the body of doctrine (up to a certain point), but do not really decide to work on themselves. This is because each person has within them a host of undesirable elements that pull in different directions and point to different interests.
There are those who say, “Well, I will start the Gnostic esoteric work when I manage to improve my economic situation; I am now going to get money and then I will dedicate myself fully to gnosis”... There are those who say, “I have a family problem, and as long as that problem continues, I will not be able to enter fully into this Gnostic esoteric work”... Others say: “Well, currently I'm a student, I'm about to graduate in engineering (or medicine, etc., etc., etc.) and that's why I can't fully dedicate myself to this Gnostic esoteric work; The day I finish my studies I will dedicate myself fully, not now”... These people, with their way of thinking, are showing that they have no affection, indeed affection, for the Christic esoteric work.
When one loves someone, one sacrifices oneself for that person one loves, because if one doesn't love them one couldn't sacrifice oneself. In order for one to fully dedicate oneself to his work, it is necessary above all to dearly love it. If one does not love the work, then it is not possible for the conjunction to be formed with the Gnostic esoteric work. If there is no conjunction of this work with our lives, obviously we will not work; that's it. We will content ourselves with reading a few books, and even attending lectures, but we will not work; behold the seriousness of this matter.
When one does not work on the teachings that we give here and in the third chamber and that we make known through our books, undoubtedly the Gnostic esoteric work cannot be understood either.
Remember the "parable of the merchant" in the Christic gospel:
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” - Matthew 13:45-46
That merchant wanted to seize such very precious pearl, but it happened that he did not have, at the moment, how to buy it. What did he do? He sold everything that he had, all his valuables, he sold everything that he owned in order to get that precious pearl. He bought it.
Likewise, the Christic esoteric work is a “precious pearl”. To get it one has to give up all kinds of secondary interests, abandon everything in the world that can attract us and dedicate oneself exclusively to this Gnostic esoteric work.
Since we have various psychic aggregates within us that personify anger, greed, lust, envy, pride, laziness, gluttony, etc., well, all these various psychic elements pull us, as I have already said, in different directions, they point towards the most diverse interests; they have their psychic energy involved in such or such interests, in such or such values, etc.
One must naturally free one's psychic energy involved in these or those values. Thus, if one manages to free it, then one can concentrate it on that "precious pearl" that is the Gnostic esoteric work.
When one free one’s own energy, when one takes it away from material interests, from selfish interests, when one takes it away from passionate desires, when one takes it away from what is not important, when one concentrates it in a single direction (which is the Gnostic work), obviously the conjunction with the work is formed, and then one is fully dedicated to the work on oneself; this naturally leads to radical transformation.
It is necessary, then, to understand this if we really yearn for transformation...
What is Love?
Undoubtedly, the love for Gnostic esoteric work is basic. When speaking of "love" we have to be judicious in the analysis (don't forget that I am a mathematician in the investigation and demanding in the expression); the word “love”, in itself, is a bit abstract, we need to specify it, we need to know what is that which is called “love”.
First of all, we have to consult a little the Christic gospel. The great Kabir Jesus said:
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” – John 13: 35
There is also another very interesting phrase from the great Kabir Jesus:
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
"And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12: 30, 31
“Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do (not) to you, do (not) ye even so to them.” – Matthew 7: 12
When people hear the word “love”, they feel that something touches their hearts, but since their mentality is in a subjective state, since they have not given objectivity to their thoughts, they do not grasp the deep significance of such a word. It is necessary and urgent to understand what "love" is.
That phrase: “Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do (not) to you, do (not) ye even so to them.”, could be translated as follows: “Become aware of others, that is, of your neighbor and yourself”. Or that other one: “Love one another; As I have loved you.” could be translated as follows: “Become aware of others and of yourself”. That of: "To love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself" could be translated as: "Become aware of the divinity that is within you and of your neighbor, and of yourself"...
Consequently, we need to become cognizant of that which is called "love", which could be translated as "cognizance."
How could one love one's fellow man, that is, comprehend them, if one is not cognizant of one's fellowmen? We must become cognizant of our fellowmen, if we truly want to comprehend them, and only by comprehending them we will feel love for them.
But in order to become cognizant of our fellowmen we must become cognizant of ourselves. If one is not cognizant of oneself, how is one going to become cognizant of one’s fellowmen? And if one is not cognizant of one’s fellowmen, how could one comprehend them? And if one does not comprehend them, what will be our conduct in relation to them? This is important...
In the Gnostic esoteric work there has to be (I said) affection for the gnostic esoteric work, but there could not be if we did not comprehend it; comprehension is essential.
Three Kinds of Love
Well, going forward, continuing with these disquisitions, we will say the following: there are three kinds of love.
When Simon Peter (whose archetype's center of gravity is in the pineal gland) tells Jesus Christ that he loves him, Jesus knows how to question his disciple, asking in turn what kind of love he feels for him.
"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep." - John 21: 15-17
We must understand this thing a little in depth, because there is purely sexual love, there is purely emotional love and there is love with cognizance. In one of our rituals we say love is law, but love with cognizance!
Many people understand each other only through sex, this is sexual love; there are others that have their center of gravity in emotion, that is, they cultivate merely emotional love; such emotional love between two people indubitably turns towards hate or vice versa; it is unstable, it is full of bitterness, passions and jealousy, etc., therefore it could not be qualified as judicious love in the full sense of the word.
Unquestionably, only conscious love deserves our veneration, but for conscious love to exist, it is essential, first of all, to work on oneself, to eliminate from oneself the undesirable psychic elements that we carry inside, otherwise there would be no love with cognizance in us.
How could someone purely emotional have conscious love? Subject X full of jealousy, full of misgivings, etc.? For this conscious love to be born, you have to eliminate the elements of passion: jealousy, quarrels, etc., you have to eliminate purely sensual elements, etc., learn to always put yourself in the other person's point of view.
How difficult it is to learn to place yourself in another's point of view! How difficult! The one who elevates oneself, who learns to feel conscious love, knows how to place oneself in the other's point of view.
So: “Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do (not) to you, do (not) ye even so to them.” should be translated as: "Become cognizant of others and yourself". If one does not place oneself in another's point of view, one totally fails, one will never love anyone with cognizance. Therefore, in order to put ourselves in the other person's point of view we have to put aside self-love.
Disgracefully, people have been manufactured with the model of self-love. It is obvious that we must, layer by layer, eliminate from ourselves the different aspects of self-love. Much of what is called "love" (that men feel for women or vice versa), deep down is nothing more than an extension of self-love. It is very difficult to remove self-love from oneself. The ego of self-love must be disintegrated, it must be annulled, it must be reduced to ashes, if we really want to learn to see the other's point of view.
Normally, nobody knows how to see another's point of view; nobody knows how to place themselves in the position of others; each one is so dominated by the ego of self-esteem that it does not even remotely occur to them to think of putting themselves in someone else's position, in the point of view of others.
If one eliminates from oneself the ego of self-love, one takes a great step, and manages to eliminate those psychic aggregates that clearly personify arrogance, superiority, and intolerance, obviously, will make extraordinary progress, because arrogance, precisely what makes us feel like very great people, which makes us behave towards others in an even despotic manner, is an obstacle to the awakening of the consciousness. An arrogant person could never love his fellowmen; how could he love them? Superiority, what shall we say about that ego of superiority? Why should we feel so important before others, before our neighbor, if we are nothing more than miserable worms in the mud of the earth? That about superiority, of believing ourselves superior to others is an obstacle to the awakening.
Intolerance and Criticism
As for intolerance, it leads us to criticism, we see the faults of others, but we do not see our own; we see the speck in another's eye, but we do not see the beam in ours. Only when one places oneself in another's point of view, then one learns to be more tolerant towards others and as a result destructive and harmful criticism disappears. It is therefore necessary to learn to put ourselves in the position of others.
That so-and-so stole, are we sure we haven't stolen from someone, ever? Who could tell?
That so-and-so adulterated, are we sure that we have never adulterated in our lives?
When so-and-so is committing these or those disorders, are we sure that we have never committed them?
Of course, when one develops tolerance, that destructive criticism disappears. So, it is necessary to develop tolerance, but for tolerance to develop in us, we must eliminate the psychic aggregates of intolerance, only then can tolerance be born in us. That is clear, complete, in the most transcendental sense of the word.
One is amazed to see how others criticize the neighbor. If we put ourselves in the other person's point of view, if for a moment we changed our personality for that of the other person, we would comprehend the other person and then we would not criticize. It is very important to learn how to put ourselves in the other's point of view, in the position of the neighbor; that is indispensable. Disgracefully, people do not know how to see the other's point of view and that is why they fail unfortunately.
Unquestionably, the consciousness is what is interesting. Consciousness is love; love and consciousness are two parts of the same. If one truly intends to become cognizant of oneself, one needs to become cognizant of others.
It causes astonishment, for example, the torturers of the neighbor, those who torture another. How unconscious they are! Because by torturing others, they are torturing themselves. Yes, if one torture someone else will later be tortured. That is the worst of business.
One has to see all those aspects, if one really wants to make extraordinary progress in the field of the Being.
When one comes to the Gnostic esoteric work, there is a terrible, frightening struggle between the past values and the work that one has to perform. As I told you, there are multiple interests; Within us there are multiple psychic aggregates pointing towards various economic, political, social, passionate interests, etc., etc., etc. And that, precisely, prevents one from entering fully into the Gnostic esoteric work. To pass from that phase to another, in which one leaves everything for esoteric work is what is radical, what is definitive. To abandon all the things of the world in order to dedicate oneself to the gnostic esoteric work.
Disgracefully, people don't think like that. Usually the students, the aspirants spend a long time between the past and the future, between the past values and the Gnostic esoteric work; a kind of uncertainty is formed, something amorphous, incoherent, in which one wants to work but don't give oneself completely. Conclusion: people waste a lot of time. In the end, those that get resolve get resolve to work on themselves. But how few are those who resolve to leave everything for the "precious pearl"! A transvaluation of life is needed, of the values that we have in it, in order to be able, later, to dedicate ourselves fully to the serious work on ourselves.
This about transvaluation is important. What would be understood by "transvaluation"? What would be the meaning of "transvaluation"?
Each one value one’s own interests. But transvaluation goes further; it is to come to comprehend, through it, that our economic, social, etc., etc., interests are futile and vain, and that the gnostic esoteric work is more precious than all of that. Transvaluation leads one to abandon many interests of an egoistic order, in order to dedicate oneself fully to the transcendental Christic esotericism.
Annihilation of the Causes of Suffering
Obviously, my dear brothers and sisters, indeed, the fundamental thing is really the Buddhist annihilation...
Theosophists are terrified of the word "annihilation." “To stop existing,” they say, “this is terrifying”; but it is necessary to go through the great Buddhist annihilation, to cease to exist here and in all the worlds, not to be afraid of death. Unfortunately, people fear death, and unconsciously offer resistance to these teachings...
You yourselves who are listening to me, are you sure that you are not, at this moment, offering some resistance to the explanation that I am giving about the gnostic esoteric work? Are some of you sure you're not bored right now, yawning? Don't you feel when I speak to you like this, in this way, that the teaching becomes a bit dry? On the other hand, if I start talking to you right now about the lottery or how to improve your economic situation, or how to achieve success in love or something like that, I assure you that you will not yawn. But when I refer directly to the work on oneself and to what is called Buddhist annihilation, unquestionably, deep down in each one of you a subconscious resistance is provoked. Why? Because in no way does the ego want to cease to exist. The ego rejects this type of teaching, because they point against their very existence. Are there any of you who feel like not existing? You want to exist here and in the “beyond”. Some of you would say, “Well, I want to no longer exist in the physical world, I would like to disincarnate”. But with what secret desire do they think like this? Simply because they would long to live in the superior worlds; that's clear, but in a slightly better situation...
Why do priests have so many followers? Because the priests do not offer the doctrine of Buddhist annihilation to their members, on the contrary they offer them heaven through easy payments, that is, they give them the passport to heaven; a comfortable life in the afterlife, enjoying all kinds of honors.
If the widow leaves a good fortune, for example, to the parish, she is given the passport to heaven in return; that is clear, so the individual may have been a great murderer, a great criminal, but it is enough that he confess to the priest so that he can give him the passport to heaven. Now, if he leaves some more money for the priest before he dies, you can be sure that, according to the priest, he would go straight to heaven. He wouldn't even go through purgatory; he would be happy. And that attracts, people like it, it has a lot of play, because the ego does not like, in any way, that somebody puts a gun to its chest. Of course not.
For example: letters rain down on me from all over Central America, from all over South America, they ask me about chakras, about initiations, powers, social positions, positions within the same Gnostic movement, economic situations, questions of love and affairs, etc., but very rarely in my life have I received a letter related to the dissolution of the ego. At least, at this moment I do not remember having received any letter in this sense; They all ask me for powers, degrees, initiations, money and positions within the Gnostic movement, etc., but with great pain I cannot find a letter from someone who is struggling to radically change; I can't find that letter from someone who is struggling to dissolve the ego; I can't find that letter from someone who is totally devoted to the death of the ego. No, not that, not to die.
To live..., everyone, even if they are black magicians, it doesn't matter, but to live. That is what they want: yes, to be great lords, to be powerful, but without bothering to die. Yet it turns out that "only with death comes the new"... "if the germ doesn't die, the plant doesn't grow"... But they don't want to understand it...
Some complain in their letters, they tell me that they still cannot consciously go out in the astral, that they would like to be enlightened, but that they still cannot receive the messages from the superior worlds, etc., and other "so many weeds"...
They do not want to realize that enlightenment cannot be achieved if their consciousness has not been liberated first. They do not want to realize that the consciousness is not emancipated, ever, if the ego is not first destroyed. They don't want to realize that they want to be enlightened but without destroying the ego, that is absurd: to be enlightened without dying.
In the world there are innumerable orders, many schools; they are fascinating, charming; mystical orders of all kinds, groups, etc., but they are useless if one does not die within oneself. Of what use are all those schools that do not teach the destruction of the myself? Enlightenment, emancipation, comes only with death. So, if one doesn't die, one is wasting time miserably.
To die in oneself, one has to love this work; one has to have affection for it, one has to have fondness for it. Because one thing is to receive the teaching here, in a group, and quite another, by the way, to combine our intimate, private life with the Christic work. Someone here can listen to everything we say, but if one doesn't work on oneself, how can one transform oneself? No way, right?
Humanity is Abnormal
Currently, humanity has an abnormal psyche, why? Because their consciousness is bottled up within the ego, that is, they have egoic consciousness.
The consciousness bottled up within the different psychic aggregates that constitute the myself, is processed by virtue of its own conditioning. Undoubtedly, as long as one has the consciousness embedded within the ego, one is abnormal, one has an abnormal psyche.
Cases are constantly heard of people being taken by aliens to through space. Those who have traveled and who have been taken by the cosmic ships, have always stated that they were inside the laboratory of one of those cosmic ships. They are always examined inside a lab, then left alone, after given them a tour, and then brought back to where they were taken. It is clear that these great cosmic ships, managed by brothers and sisters from other worlds, have wonderful labs. But why do they take the earthlings and put them inside the laboratories? Haven't you ever thought about that? Well, simply because earthlings are creatures whose psyche is in an abnormal state, they are not normal people, they are creatures with a very strange, very rare psyche. They live in a somnambulistic state; that is the motive for the motives for which they are abducted for a little while and placed in the laboratories of their cosmic ships. The extraterrestrials are very interested in seeing these abnormal inhabitants of the Earth, and they take them to study them in their laboratories, to see what is happening to them, because the earthlings are abnormal beings. That is the harsh reality of the facts. Now all this will be clearly explained to you. One comes to have a normal psyche when one has worked on oneself; before is not possible.
In archaic times of our world, the psyche of three-brained beings was normal. So, humanity was in tune with the other planetary humanities. But, unfortunately, after the annihilation of the abominable Kundabuffer organ (which was given to humanity for the purpose of establishing the stability of the geological crust of the Earth), the psyche became abnormal, because the consequences of that abominable organ remained deposited in the five cylinders of the organic machine. Those consequences constitute what is called “ego”. The consciousness embedded within the ego began to function abnormally and continues to function abnormally, unfortunately.
So, our purpose is to create normal creatures, to get them out of the state of psychic abnormality in which they find themselves.
You see the various terrestrial abnormalities: one of them is intolerance; That is very serious: seeing someone else's defect but not seeing the defect that we carry. If we foist this or that mistake on others, we have it also and very much in abundance. Making judgments about the attitudes or behaviors or projects of our peers, without prior evidence, is an abnormality.
If one sees, for example, in a fellow such or such an attitude, why make judgments about it? The facts themselves can be understood when examined with the sense of psychological self-observation, but if we don't use the sense of psychological self-observation, how can we fully understand the facts?
As we advance along the path of these disquisitions, we realize that our fellowmen are abnormal; “that so-and-so said..., that thingummy said that thingamabob said”..., that can only be seen in our planet Earth; that of "they say that it is said", between normal people it is not seen; among normal people there is no gossip, that is typical of a world where people are abnormal.
Observe how the minds react upon one another. I have been able to observe it in debate tables as so-and-so says such a thing, alludes to thingummy. Then, thingummy reacts violently, he feels hurt, it's abnormal. In an advanced world of space, so-and-so tells thingummy such a thing and thingummy keeps silent, thingummy doesn't argue, because everyone is free to say whatever they wants to say.
On a certain occasion I was talking (that was about 30 years ago), in the superior worlds, with the angel Anael about a certain quality that I thought I possessed and that I still did not possess. Anael, with good reason, after a certain observation made me see my mistake. But I was still used to the earthling-style of discussion, and so I gave him a bit of an objection. I appealed to every dialectic that is, was, and will be, I wanted to "hit where it hurts most," as they say. Anael remained respectful listening to me, without saying a single word. When I had finished my speech, when my Ciceronian Catilinarian was finished, he showed himself reverently, turned his back and withdrew; he didn't say a single word. He had said what he had to say and left me full freedom to say what I wanted to say; I talked as much as I wanted to talk, of course. How many things did I say? Many. Thereafter, he respectfully kept silent, listened to me decently, turned his back and left.
On another occasion I was having a conversation with Sivananda in the upper worlds. I remember that I was giving a talk, a lecture. I was talking about tantra and tantrism, about the secretum secretorum of the alchemists laboratory. It was then that we were immediately visited by Sivananda. He was newly disincarnated. He said, "Behold, do not you see, this is why you are vulgarizing the teaching. I do not agree with that, that you are vulgarizing the teaching," that is, that we handed over the key to alchemy. "No," he said, "the teaching cannot be vulgarized..."
In an unusual tone I began the discussion again, knocked on the table several times in an unusual manner, and told him, "I am ready to answer all your questions, the discussion is open!..."
Sivananda had the good sense, even though he is an earthling, to sit in the oriental style and go into deep meditation. Moments later I felt that someone was delving inside my head. I looked and there was the yogin in deep meditation. After his meditation, he stood up, approached me, hugged me and said, "Now I comprehended the message that you are delivering to humanity. I agree with you Samael, and I am going to recommend that they read your books, I am going to recommend it to the whole world; I already comprehended everything..."
I also hugged him and said, "I also esteem you very much, Sivananda; I deeply appreciate you."
Of course, Sivananda is an earthling, but he is an earthling a little more judicious than the other earthlings, at least he already has attitudes of not being an earthling, extraordinary mystical attitudes.
Simply, my esteemed brothers and sisters, that one becomes comprehensive when one dissolves the egos, that is obvious; learning to see the other's point of view, becomes tolerant, that sense of destructive criticism disappears, etc. One becomes normal when one destroys the ego, the psyche becomes normal; one begins to act differently, completely differently from the others.
But seeing how minds react to each other is something that causes pain. If someone says something, the other reacts, feels alluded to; that can only be seen in our planet, where there are abnormal psyches. Because where there are normal psyches you don't see those reactions.
So, reflect, think, love the esoteric work; make yourself cognizant of the gnostic work. But if you don't really love your esoteric work, you will never work on yourself. If you do not come to really love the esoteric work there will never be a conjunction of your lives with the work; and if there is no conjunction of their lives in relation to the gnostic esoteric work, there will indeed never really understand the gnostic esoteric work. One needs to comprehend.
The instructors only want you to go through the Buddhist annihilation so that your consciousness will awaken. As long as you haven't gone through the great Buddhist annihilation you are doing very badly. If they asked me how you are doing, I would tell you that it is bad. Why? Because I see you egotistically alive and this is what is grievous.
While one is egotistically alive one cannot comprehend another, no comprehension can really flow; one walks in the world of the exchange of subjective opinions. The concepts that they emit turn out to be incoherent, not exact.
When one dies, the ego ceases to exist here and in all worlds; then it is that one is indeed cognizant because, wouldn't you believe, that egotistically alive, as you are, you could reach nirvana? Well, obviously not. Because nirvana is heaven, that is why the Buddhists themselves have said the dissolution of the ego is nirvana. That's essential...
Today I have emphasized to you about the work. As a fundamental assignment I give you the dissolution of the ego of self-love, and of these other egos that are called intolerance, arrogance, importance (feeling important, none of us is important). Arrogance, importance and intolerance are obstacles in order to love our neighbor.
It is essential that you eliminate merely emotional love and achieve cognizant love. That is fundamental; emotional love is full of jealousy, of passions; that is not love, rather it is deprivation and excuse me the term.
Conscious love is needed, that's why in our rituals we say love is law, but conscious love...
Although I annoy you with certain repetitions, I must tell you that we must learn to love our fellowmen. We could not love them if we did not comprehend them; and we could not comprehend them if we do not become cognizant of them; and we could not become cognizant of them if we did not become cognizant of ourselves; and one would not be able to become cognizant of oneself, if one is not capable of eliminating the egos that we have spoken about tonight, namely, those of self-love, intolerance, and arrogance, which cause so much damage. Comprehend, disintegrate that class of elements...
Disintegrate that one of self-importance because we are not important, not even myself (who am the founding president of the Gnostic movement) could consider myself important. I consider myself to be a vile worm from the mud of the earth and that is all. I do not think nor do I want to think that I am greater than you. I am a servant of yours, but nothing more than a servant, a humble servant...
As long as we have, within ourselves, the sense of self-importance, we will walk the path of error.
So ends my talk tonight. If any of you have something to ask, can do so with complete freedom.
Questions and Answers
Student: How would one go about teaching a child or a son, or being a kindergarten instructor, for example, what would be the bases for these little ones to understand love towards their neighbor, or that they could cultivate those values?
Samael Aun Weor: Really love towards our fellowmen is something that sounds very romantic, very beautiful.
"Love one another as I have loved you"... O.K., but if we don't understand the words of the great Kabir Jesus, the phrase is nothing more than beautiful, that's all.
I already said: to love others you really have to have a cognizance. Love and cognizance are the same. Cognizance is love. If one is not cognizant of others, obviously one is not loving others. One has to become cognizant of others. And how would one become cognizant of others if one has not become cognizant of oneself? One has to start by becoming cognizant of oneself, before becoming cognizant of others.
As one becomes self-cognizant, cognizant of one’s own mistakes, cognizant of his own defects, etc., then one becomes cognizant of others.
When one becomes cognizant of others and of oneself, one no longer criticizes, one no longer says: “So-and-so is a thief, thingummy is a killer.” One no longer says it, one is cognizant of oneself and knows that one has stolen many times, that one has killed many times. One no longer says, “So-and-so is a talker, she is a gossiper, she is a talker” because she knows that she has spoken many times, that many times she has been a gossip monger.
Thus, as one becomes cognizant of oneself, one will also learn to put oneself in the position of others, one will learn to see the other's point of view, that is, one will become comprehensible with others. That is love well understood. If one is not cognizant of others, then one is not loving. Let's see, you speak...
Student: Venerable master, in your dissertation you told us that we should value the gnostic esoteric work and you gave us the example of the precious pearl, in a very personal situation, I now have the opportunity to study psychology academically, and will it be going backwards if I would dedicate myself to studying these aspects, let's say, academics, when I have already made the decision to dedicate myself to the mission? Although she says that I can give the teaching. I would like you to give me a real answer in relation to the purpose I have for the gnostic work.
Samael Aun Weor: Well, unquestionably, academic psychology marches on the wrong path, Disgracefully. Now, it's not about getting wrong theories into our head, because it's completely damaging our head, because it's absurd. True psychology must be dedicated to the self-exploration of oneself, to the self-exploration of the ego, to the knowledge of the psychic aggregates that each one of us has, to the elimination of those aggregates. In a word, to profound, direct self-exploration, without the need for absurd theories.
Student: Could it be said, master, that one seeks study by some subjective means, perhaps fear of life or self-esteem?
Samael Aun Weor: Well, study does not harm anyone. But if you look closely, you have to select your food, the food that you take to your stomach, obviously, you also have to select the type of knowledge that you are going to put into your wretched brain...
