I understand when we descend into the fire during the sexual act without spilling the cup we are stealing fire from the devil. Is it just with the sexual act the fire is stolen or is it whenever we defeat desire and temptation at anytime in the day or our lives?

It happens in degrees. There is more fire to be stolen from the devil in sex, but we also steal his fire whenever we restrain ourselves from anger, pride, vanity, etc., to a much less degree.
Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.
