Greetings. I'm struggling with motivation and I'm asking for help. I'm talking about the motivation to really align myself with the Divine will, or in other words, surrender my personal will. I find it really hard to just meditate for the long-enough periods of time that this requires. It gets really boring and my tendency is to distract myself with entertainment. I think I read somewhere on this website that it's a luxury to be in a position to have enough free time to do this work. And well, I'm in such a position, but after meditating for a while I lose my sense of motivation. It feels as though my motivation to meditate is completely based on concepts created by my mind. And those concepts don't really hold up in the long run. I guess I would have to learn to discern and listen to that motivation that comes from my "Being" instead of the motivation that comes from my mind. Then it would become more of a matter of adopting or assuming the identity of "Being" rather than my mind as a way to motivate myself. Can you speak about the role of motivation in this process and is there a best way to motivate oneself?

Hello Padmasambava,

Thank you for your question.

We must distinguish between the will of God and our own will. As you indicated with the being and the mind, we must be able to comprehend the difference and decide which direction to follow.

Ask yourself some questions. What motivated you to do this work? What grounds and centers you? Observe your thoughts while meditating. What is it about your thoughts that distract you? This all has to be a self-realized, understood, and actions taken to follow your true intention.

If your intention is to connect with divine will, then this takes work. To activate Christ consciousness takes work. There will be many distractions thrown at us to prevent progress on the path. We must be mindful and do what is necessary to stay focused.

Think of it as a test of will. Whatever distract one from God’s will, distracts them from their true purpose. If one is not following their true purpose, then their will and God’s will are not aligned. Indeed, aligning our will with God’s will is a daunting task, but a task that must be undertaken if we are to work towards ascension. With this in mind, think deeply about your motivation, stay focused, and continue the work.

I leave a quote from the Book of Revelation for reflection:

“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” – Revelation 3: 15, 16
