The following two questions were posed at the facilitator's course in Brooklyn on December 12th, 2012, after the lecture "Our Personality - Lunar or Divine":

1) According to certain interpretations of Western psychology and Eastern spirituality, we need to have developed and healthy egos and personalities in order to begin spiritual work. Do the Gnostic teachings agree with this?

2) Where can I read more about the four types of personalities, related to the four elements, the four temperaments, astrological signs, etc.?

If you find our resources useful and want others to benefit as well, make a donation to Glorian Publishing. Every donation makes a difference.

1) Egos are not healthy for spirituality. They are the antithesis to the divine within us, since the multiple disparate psychic entities have trapped our divine consciousness within suffering.

When we utilize the term solar personality, it is in relation with a type of individuality, spirituality and level of being that is far superior to what we commonly denominate "personality." Lunar personality is negative and subjected to the impulses of the animal ego. Solar personality is the vehicle of Christ, the Solar Astral Body or Cosmic Mediator Khrestos.

In synthesis, yes, we agree, we need a healthy solar personality developed through conscious efforts and voluntary sufferings. But it is necessary to overcome the lunar personality and the lunar mind, constituted by the pluralized ego or psychic aggregates within our interior.

2) You can learn more about astrological signs, the four temperaments, and different types of personalities throughout the referenced resources:

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!"

The first question assumes that Gnosis uses the word ego in the same way as modern psychology. It does not. In Gnosis, the word ego refers to a psychological construct that encloses our true nature. An ego (which is Latin for "I") filters the flow of energies between the consciousness it traps and the external phenomena around it. So, the Gnostic word ego is synonymous with the terms defect, aggregate, sin, fault, affliction, etc.
