The poor in spirit, or indigent of spirit, are actually those who recognize their own nothingness, shame and inner misery. This kind of being unquestionably receives Enlightenment.

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

It is obvious that the mind enriched by so many merits, insignia and medals, distinguished social virtues and complicated academic theories is not poor in spirit, and thus could never enter the kingdom of Heaven.
- Samael Aun Weor, The Great Rebellion, "Drugs"

I also recommend reading the lecture called "The Eightfold Path and the Pentalpha" if you are interested in learning about the other Beatitudes.

It is said that it easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a richman to go to heaven. What is the symbolism of that? We live on a world where every moment is an initiation into the next. Pass the test to our consciousness; we come that closer to self-liberation from the materialistic and sensual world. We experience awareness on a higher plane of spirit, heart and soul

If the initiatic test is not passed then it is an indication that one is identified with the materialistic and sensual world. Identified it means one is not experiencing essential objective awareness that is above materialism, sensualism, egotism.

To not have to be concerned with food, clothing and shelter is a dharma. When one has this type of dharma it is necessary to share that dharma with others who are in situations of famine, homelessness, illness etc. Thus others can experience some of the pleasure of that dharma.

Some celebrities make 20 million American dollars per movie. If one is not sharing their riches with the impoverished then their wealth which is not being wisely utilized is weighed against them. Weighed on the other side of life.

Giving to a charity is not enough one has personally see that others our benefiting from their dharma. One does not need to be wealthy to give. One can give time, volunteer, be helpful in an impeccable way whereby they are actually assisting the souls of other people.

People get a good feeling like they helped someone when giving money to a drug addict, or alcoholic who spends it on their vice. But in that form one has only helped them to remain in their cycle of degeneration.

Wealth is a responsibility to share yet many of the wealthy are more concerned with adding digits to their already big bank account, than actually doing something for a brother or sister in this big family we call life..

Increasing or replenishing wealth is not a crime. Not sharing the wealth is a crime. Because when the rich die they are asked like anybody else, what did you do for the suffering humanity in its valley of bitterness and tears? What did you manifest to end that suffering? If it shows on the scale that there was little conscious giving to others, then the wealth that any of us may have, is marked against us.

We pay on the other side of life, “death” For the bad things that we did on this side and also for the beneficial things that we could have done but did not do.

People don’t realize that life is a power and power is a responsibility to use correctly.

Hence the symbolism: It is said that it easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to go to heaven.
