Gluttony

Unrestrained desire to repeat sensations.

One of the seven capital sins. Must be transmuted into its pure form: temperance, which is related to Saturn (Orifiel).

Usually when we think of gluttony, we confine its meaning to eating too much. Truthfully, gluttony is unrestrained desire of all kinds: the craving for the sensations of consumption. As you know, today we are "consumers." The world economy is based on "consumption" - you, the consumer, consuming things: that is how we are destroying the planet.

Gluttony refers to psychological defects related to over-consumption: the desire for more. All of us, without exception, have egos of gluttony, but they may not appear in relation with food. Some of us are gluttons for attention and constantly seek attention from others. Some of us are gluttons for buying things, and cannot control our spending habits. Some of us are gluttons with watching entertainment or playing games ("binging"), while others are gluttons for sexual sensations. And then, of course, there is gluttony with food and drink, with sweets and treats. In every case, gluttony is desire, and desire is the cause of suffering; it is how we are destroying ourselves. Find your gluttony and stop it, and you can liberate a lot of consciousness.

When the defects of gluttony are destroyed, we liberate the virtue of temperance. Temperance, the virtue of balance, is related to our mental stomach: how we receive impressions.
