There are a number of herbs available that are purported to increase the vibrancy and intensity of one's dreams, as well as improve recall and lucidity. Some examples include African Dream Root (Silene capensis), Calea Zacatechichi, Verbena, Mugwort and even humble Lemongrass.

I've long heard that entheogens such as ayahuasca, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms are detrimental to the development of the soul. What of these herbs, if taken in the form of a tea or tincture? Certainly one who is fully awakened who have no need of such things, but for those attempting to awaken themselves in the internal worlds it seems these plants could be an aid.

I have heard instructors say that Gnostic students should not use shortcuts such as brainwave entrainment or entheogens, but these herbs seem more like regular teas, like green tea or chamomile. Many of them have beneficial health aspects outside of dream enhancement. Therefore, are there negatives associated with these powerful dream enhancing herbs, or should one proceed with caution and benefit from these mildly psychoactive substances?

If you have access to a variety of power sources, which will you choose: the tiny watch battery, or the enormous power station? Those herbs are like watch batteries. The power they provide is relatively small. The power station is your sexual force. If you work effectively transforming your sexual energy, you do not need those little batteries anymore. People who recommend those little sources of power do so because they do not transmute their sexual energy, so they do not know about it.
