The Sufi Masters (may الله Allah be pleased with them) taught that striving against animal desire (
mujahadah, otherwise known as
jihad, Holy War against the ego) leads one to the path of contemplation (
mushahadah, or bearing witness to the divine,
shahadah).
Seriousness is developed within the disciple who comprehends the need to die in the ego, to enter annihilation (
fana) of desires (
nafs), and thereby strives (mujahadah) for mystical death moment by moment, and within meditation (contemplation,
mushahadah).
Our Prophet Samael Aun Weor (may peace and blessings be upon him) stated that the only serious students who exist are those who have declared themselves their worst enemies!
If one is not working, striving to die in the mind, moment by moment and within profound meditation, lacks profundity, depth, and seriousness.
