Personally I can attest that the above is true, and it just amazes me how little respect I have for myself, looking at all the stupid things I keep repeating again and again and again....
So do you have any tips for how we aquire the above? Seems like some people where born with seriousness and depth and just go straight as they find the teachings, but if not an innate naturally occuring ability, then how did you aquire it?
Personally I'm shifting from periods of work and seriousness, to times of deafeatism and self-hatred. So to be able to stay serious would ofc be helpful for all my life, but the Ego has so many facets and different ways to lure and attract most of us...

Awaken and investigate these teachings in the internal planes, because all intellectual knowledge is superficial, at best. For as Samael Aun Weor taught us:

People who study all their life and do not experience what they read develop terrible indigestion or fanaticism. They either end up leaving these studies from a lot of fear and doubt, or feeling self-sufficient and merely taking the doctrine as a religion to be believed in. Sadly, most people end up in either one of these two categories without ever experiencing the significance of awakening, since people lack depth and seriousness.

The Sufi Masters (may الله Allah be pleased with them) taught that striving against animal desire (mujahadah, otherwise known as jihad, Holy War against the ego) leads one to the path of contemplation (mushahadah, or bearing witness to the divine, shahadah).
Seriousness is developed within the disciple who comprehends the need to die in the ego, to enter annihilation (fana) of desires (nafs), and thereby strives (mujahadah) for mystical death moment by moment, and within meditation (contemplation, mushahadah).
Our Prophet Samael Aun Weor (may peace and blessings be upon him) stated that the only serious students who exist are those who have declared themselves their worst enemies!
If one is not working, striving to die in the mind, moment by moment and within profound meditation, lacks profundity, depth, and seriousness.
