Mudras provide a type of energetic circuit for the soul and possess different qualities of a psychic nature. While useful, they have become antiquated in relation with the type of energetic currents present in our cosmos from the Aquarian Dionysian wave. This is discussed by Samael Aun Weor in his book Kundalini Yoga: Mysteries of the Fire. If you are extremely sensitive and psychic, then mudras can be of benefit; however, most people are not that psychic, so oftentimes mudras become more of a distraction than part of an effective meditation regiment.
The sign of Jesus with the hand represents the Gnostic Pentagram, with the two inferior fingers within the palm and the thumb, middle and index fingers extended. This is the man made into the image of God, the upright microcosmic star, as opposed to the hand mudras of rock and metal music culture, as well as the peace sign of the "Hippie" movement (which has two fingers aimed upward, with three fingers within the palm, symbolizing the fallen man).
Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.
Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!"
