Is there any harm engaging in activities such as fishing or hunting? I personally do not do any hunting for mammals, however every now and then I may go out to catch some fish or squid since we have some varieties around here which I really enjoy eating.

I tend to release the majority of fish I catch due to feeling a sense of sorrow for the animal (hooks are painful). In retrospect, even if purchasing fish from the market, it had to go through the same process of being caught (whether by net or hook) then was slaughtered. The only difference is that (unless purchased alive) the catch and slaughtering process is done by someone else.

I am not a vegetarian and do not feel the need to be, however I do feel a sense of concern for animals going through pain and death.

The universe is sustained by the life and death of all beings. There cannot be one factor without the other, meaning that the law of the Cosmic Common Trogoautoegocrat is "the law of reciprocity and balance of all cosmic units."

If you hunt your own food, what is good is to pray to the elemental of these animals and to thank them with all of your soul, by the grace of the Lord, for their sacrifice, since through their death you may in turn live and better serve God Most High for the betterment of humanity.

Whenever I eat fish, animals, grains, vegetables, or any meal, I give thanks to الله Allah (may He be praised and exalted) for the sacrifice of these elements so that I may live and nourish my body. I thank the elementals of any food I eat and vow that through their consumption, I will in turn help raise their level of being through their assimilation within my body and their elevation within my soul through my work of transmutation, sanctification, and selfless service.

When you hunt your own food, you should pray in this fashion, that through their sacrifice you are helping the souls of these elements rise higher and closer to the Absolute in accordance with the will of your Innermost and the transformation of these elemental energies within your body, soul, and mind.

For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully I found that in reality God was the seeker and I the sought. -Bayazid al-Bastami
