I am currently embarking in a purification process regarding a number of vices involving substance abuse, notably the ones listed in the title. I understand these are tremendous blocks to spiritual progress and one of the first vows is to give up intoxicants.

My line of questioning is this: What are you the psychological and spiritual effects of substances? In particular, marijuana. It induces a cloudy and befuddled mind that perceives thought in an abstract way. I've read that it is darkness that destroys the Christic light, and that there are certain cults of Black Magic that worship Siva through this drug. What is the purpose of this plant on earth? Is simply being misused for nefarious purposes? The pleasurable sensation it induces certainly causes damage, but is this damage performed to all of our seven bodies, astral, mental etc.?

"With the sinister demon Algol, it is impossible to make compromises, arrangements, or any kind of crooked deal. Alcohol is very treacherous and sooner or later will stab us in the back. Many people with Thelema (will) only drink one or two glasses a day; a terrific ruse, isn’t it?" - The Mystery of the Golden Blossom

Is Algol a true demon, a Being awakened in darkness who seeks to trap humanity in ego? Or is this an expression of speech meant to describe the destructive effects of alcohol?

I clearly understand from the teachings that all intoxicants strengthen the pluralized ego, the Red Devils of Seth that seethe within. What is the method in which they cause damage to the many humans trapped in their seductive webs?

Thank for for any wisdom on this issue you might have to offer.

FRIAR LAWRENCE
The gray-eyed morn smiles on the frowning night,
Checkering the eastern clouds with streaks of light,
And fleckled darkness like a drunkard reels
From forth day’s path and Titan’s fiery wheels.
Now, ere the sun advance his burning eye,
The day to cheer and night’s dank dew to dry,
I must upfill this osier cage of ours
With baleful weeds and precious-juicèd flowers.
The earth, that’s nature’s mother, is her tomb.
What is her burying, grave that is her womb.
And from her womb children of divers kind
We sucking on her natural bosom find,
Many for many virtues excellent,
None but for some and yet all different.
Oh, mickle is the powerful grace that lies
In herbs, plants, stones, and their true qualities.
For naught so vile that on the earth doth live
But to the earth some special good doth give.
Nor aught so good but, strained from that fair use
Revolts from true birth, stumbling on abuse.
Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied,
And vice sometime by action dignified.
Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet (2.3.1-22)
Every plant on earth transforms specific energies from the cosmos, and therefore possess numerous virtues depending on their use. However, when such plants like marijuana are inhaled through smoking, the act of burning liberates many harmful chemicals to the body, mind, and soul.

Fire, Fohat, can crystallize positively or negatively. Smoking marijuana liberates the Fohat crystallized within this plant in a negative way, and when consumed by the psyche of the person, accelerates the degeneration of the drug addict through fortification of the animal ego.

Do not think that by quoting Shakespeare, "And vice sometime by action dignified," signifies that smoking or consuming marijuana is in any way ok. The elementals of these plants have their place within nature, but not when the physical plant is incinerated or consumed, since this negatively crystallizes the inverted Fohat within one's psyche.

Please do not believe that, based on this affirmation, possessing and using marijuana is fine in any way. We do not recommend using or possessing this plant at all, even under the guise of "elementotherapy," since most people lack will and are easily tempted by their addictions. We make this explicitly clear for all of our students, so that they do not allow themselves to be misled by the ignorant and foolish.

The demon Algol may not refer specifically to one being, but to the collective degeneration of humanity that consumes and abuses alcohol, because the excessive influence of intoxicants on the body, mind, and soul is truly destructive and demonic.

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Thank you for your wisdom. Addiction is a struggle, but imbibing blind fire for pleasure's sake is akin to trading a gem for a rock! Better to experience the ecstasy of God than the desperate, futile enjoyment of the damned.

Judas is the demon of desire that torments us. Pilate is the demon of the mind that has justifications for everything. Caiaphas is the demon of laziness that prostitutes the altar.

These are the traitors who crucified Christ for thirty coins of silver. The thirty coins of silver represent all the vices and passions of the world.
They traded Christ for a few bottles at the bar. They traded Christ for the brothel of the adulterous bed. They traded Christ for money and riches, and for the sensual life. They sold Christ for thirty coins of silver.

As a side note if you happen to see this, can you recommend any esoteric strategies for healing the body and psyche from the damages that result from misuse of drugs, alcohol and cigarette smoking? Certainly transmutation, exercise, beautiful music and enjoying nature will do the recovering abuser a world of good.

What about the boiled pine cone water discussed in Esoteric Medicine and Practical Magic, in order to heal the lungs?
Is the mantra A beneficial, as it vibrates the lungs?
Might the S M Hon mantra be used in order to heal the Mental Body?
Any beneficial foods or cleanses (such as the olive oil and lemon juice mixture for the liver) you might know of to hasten the movement of toxins and chemicals out of the physical body?

Thank you once again.

Thank You for serving Humanity! Is Medical Cannabis (authentic medical use) use harmful like recreational use? Why is the fohat of Cannabis absorbed negatively when smoked or ingested but other plants this is not the case? Is Tulsi ok for ingestion? The Hare Krsnas say it is negative to heat it and some even say it is negative to consume at all. Sounds similar to comments on cannabis, does this mean Cannabis has a similarly advanced beneficial role in elementotherapy?

We do not recommend medical marijuana in any way to our students, for as Benedictus aptly explained, many who call themselves "disciples" are lukewarm, weak in will, and self-deceptive, looking for any excuse to get "high."

There are many ways to heal the body, soul, and mind without resorting to marijuana or the elemental of marijuana. Therefore, since most people only want to get high, we do not recommend using this plant.

There also exist many plants that intoxicate the soul once smoked and inhaled or ingested. This is due to the fact that fire, Fohat, releases chemicals by transforming matter.

Smoking plants introduces many harmful chemicals into the body due to the destructive and transformative capacities of Fohat, and in the case of marijuana, ingesting its chemicals is absolutely detrimental to the soul, since it fortifies our animal nature in a terrible manner, heightened even more through crystallizing its properties through fire.

This is why we do not recommend smoking or ingesting intoxicating plants, i.e. marijuana, nicotine, yage, at all. Smoking is a filthy habit that Samael Aun Weor expressly forbade his students from engaging in.

There was once a cult in the middle east called the hashishans, who would ritually smoke hashish, marijuana, in order to awaken themselves in evil and to murder for their religious leader. This is where we get the term "assassin."

Therefore, anyone who smokes hashish or marijuana assassinates their inner Buddha!

As for Tulsi, I do not know enough about to comment.

In response to Emancipatius, all of those exercises from Esoteric Medicine and Practical Magic are beneficial. As for cleanses, there are numerous kinds out there from different holistic traditions which are easy to investigate, learn about, and incorporate into your health regiment.
