Hello, I have a few questions.

I would like to know more about the techniques of some breathing exercises

1. I use Ham Saw- Can I use reverse abdominal breathing with the Ham Saw technique? I learned this from the Taoists, who use it to force the lower dantien to rotate, causing the conversion of jing(essense) into shen(spirit).

2. When transmuting with mantra, how can we continue to breath in longer than out for transmuting like SAW stated to do, if the mantra is long? Should we make long pauses for the inhalation in order to make it longer than exhale, or at least equal? I was taught that exhale longer than inhale builds guardian chi, which supplies the outer body(physical) instead of inner body (spirit).

3. Does SAW teach us to breath with our lower abdomen? our upper abdomen? or our chest? This is very important.

4. Many traditions including the Yogic tradition teaches that the Perineum is a very important "gate", and that we should exercise it and use it with our Pranayamas. It is stated that it helps to prevent energy leakages, and helps to force the energy up the spine. Where do we stand on this?

Thank you so much!

You should use Ham Sah only as directed in the books; do not try reversing the mantra. By extending the mental mantra HAAAAAM and quickly exhaling Sah, you can adjust you breathing. Also retain the breath between inhalation and exhalation. Generally, it is good to breathe from the diaphragm, but what is more important is to visualize the energy moving upward through the spine.

The best prevention of energy leakage is not in a physical organ, but in the mind. Control your lust, and you control the sexual energy.
