Let us remember that God is an energy, not an anthropomorphic figure in the clouds. We have the most potent energy of God within our sexual organs. Therefore, those who do not feel fear towards losing that sacred energy in the sexual act and who do not consistently practice sublimation will gain no objective spiritual knowledge.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of דַּעַת (da'ath) knowledge: but fools despise חָכְמָה (Chokmah, Christ) wisdom and instruction. -Proverbs 1:7

We must be afraid, or better said, filled with awe towards the sacred power of the Holy Spirit. If we do not have awe, reverence, or respect for the sexual act, then we will engage in sexual union as animals, culminating in the bestial and spiritually-destructive orgasm. This is what it means that "fools despise wisdom and instruction."

We can clarify this subject of fear and love by studying the Sufi Masters. There are three principle states, stations, or stages of the Sufi path: Fear (makhâfah), Love (mahabbah), and Knowledge (marifah, or da'ath in Hebrew). One cannot attain knowledge of God without love for Him, neither can one love God without feeling respect, fear, or reverence for the instructions He gave. Therefore, if we are foolish and continue with sexually-degenerated behavior, we are not being respectful or in awe of scientific chastity. Such persons who have no fear of the consequences of sexual degeneration truly do not love or know God.

On Fear (Khawf)

God Most High said, "They call upon their Lord fearing and desiring" (Qur'an 32:16).

Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Abd al-Hiri al-Adl informed us... through Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of God said, "No one who weeps from the fear of God Most High can enter the fire any more than milk can re-enter the udder. The dust of the Way of God and the smoke of hell will never be mingled in the servant's nostrils."

I heard Abu Ali al-Daqqaq say, "Fear has degrees: Fear (khawf), dread (khashiyah), and awe (haybah). Fear is a condition and an effect of faith. God Most High said, "So fear Me if you are believers" (3:175). Dread is a condition of knowledge. God Most High said, "Only those among His servants who know, dread God" (35:28). Awe is a condition of realization. God Most High said, "Be wary of God Himself" (3:28). -Risalah Al-Qushayriyah

On Consciousness of God (Taqwa)

God Most High said "The noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most God-wary" (49:13).

Abu-l Husayn Ali bin Ahmad bin Abdan reported... that Abu Said al-Khudri said that a man went to the Prophet and said, "O Prophet of God, advise me." He said, "'Be wary of God for in it is gathered all good.' (3:102). Take upon yourself war for God's sake [against your egos and defects, to practice jihad or mujahadah, striving against animal desire in your mind], for it is the monasticism of the Muslim. Take upon yourself the remembrance of God, for it is a light for you."

Ali bin Ahmad bin Abdan reported... that Anas said that someone asked, "Prophet of God, who are the Family of Muhammad?" He said, "Everyone who is God-wary, for in the fear of God is gathered all good."

The basic meaning of ittiqa (or taqwa), fear of God, is protection, by obedience to God, from His punishment. In ordinary usage it is said, "So-and-so was protected (ataqqa) by his shield." The foundation of this fear or awe is to guard yourself from attributing equals to God [through identification with your internal infidels, egos, vices and defects within the three brains]. After that, it manifests in guarding yourself from doubtful situations, and later still in guarding yourself from omitting to do what is good. -Risalah Al-Qushayriyah

If we do not follow divine reason and perform evil, God must balance the Karma we initiated. God does not mock the law, but fulfills it. If we do not know how to follow divine laws, then we suffer for it on account of our ignorance. Therefore, in a sense God does not really punish us, but gives us what we deserve as the fruit of our own evil labor. Karma is action and consequence, and is impartial. Children who die young do so from Karma from previous lives, and the parents also must suffer on account of their own previous actions. While this is hard to bear, one must remember that it is our own actions that either produce happiness or pain.
