I live in Chicago and I saw a reply to another poster by a Gnostic instructor saying that instruction takes place daily at retreats. I want to, just informationally at this time, explore into the possibility of moving close to a permanent Gnostic retreat site. If I do this, it would be with the intention to be able to receive more regularly, so as to make Gnosis a bigger part of my life in that way and to do more to facilitate soul growth, spiritual progress, and elimination of the ego. I am at a distant phase of merely initiating to explore this possibility right now, and I want to start with these questions, please:

Please tell me, are there any other permanent Gnostic retreat sites in existence besides the one I've heard of in Nebraska?

Is the location in Nebraska affiliated with this here Gnostic organization, please?

The Gnostic teacher I've been receiving lessons from so far here in Chicago tells me, and most proudly, that all of the missionaries who reside permanently in Nebraska are Mexican and that they do not speak much English. I am about to get certified in TEFL, (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which would also qualify me to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. I had this flash idea as in, what if I were to help teach the Mexicans in Nebraska some English.

These are all idea-related thoughts of mine at this stage, and I am sharing them as such, as part of this general informational inquiry of mine, and I do not yet know at this stage what is actually possible for my meager monetary capacity.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Just like any other tradition, there are many groups using the same name, scriptures, and practices. So, there are many "Gnostic" centers, just as there are many "Christian" or "Muslim" groups. As you would expect, the quality of groups varies widely, and moreover, constantly change. Thus, we cannot comment on the relative value or trustworthiness of anyone.

The instructors who volunteer on this website come from a variety of groups and movements. Yet, none are related to any monastery or retreat center. Instead of expecting people to travel to us, we travel to them. It is more cost-effective, reaches more people, and is more efficient. That is why we host retreats in diverse locations around the world.

Thanks for the reply, dear Matthew Thomas. It appears that I've been rather naive on this matter. Various types of groups who call themselves "Christian", or "Muslim", to use the big examples, always have some type of a word attached to the basic word of the religion by which they effectively produce a name for themselves which clearly and obviously indicates what sort of a variation or offshoot one is dealing with, such as, for instance, the examples of "Eastern Orthodox Christian", and "Shi'ite Muslim". I rather expected the Gnostic sects to have some attached name to the basic religion as an identifier in like manner.

Why don't they?

I have no problem, and rather find it wonderful, that this current site arranges retreats that travel to people, instead of people traveling to them. I am in Chicago. When are you guys coming to me?

Thank you for your reply and replies. As a new person to this site I am quite eager to learn about the site and how things work, as well as to rise to the maximum level of goodness through the herein available things.
