A very popular Bible passage is John 3:16. We see it every where, t-shirts, tattoos, bumper stickers...art work...

John 3:15-16: "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

-- I am wondering, why is it that people can take just this one passage and assume that if we "believe" in Jesus Christ we will be saved?

It seems that when people are introduced to today's Christianity they are brought to this passage and suddenly an entire church is built upon it, without as much attention to the rest of the Bible and what it says about being saved.

And then people ask, "Are you saved?" "Have you let Jesus into your heart?"

-- What does it mean, "...whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." ?

-- Is this passage interpreted literally when it is not meant to be so, like the Adam and Eve story and so much more within the Bible?

-- When I read this after having gained some knowledge from Gnosis about the real Path, what is this passage saying?

Man is an english word rooted in the sanskrit world MANAS, which means MIND; alchemically and kabbalistically speaking, we have two minds:

The concrete mind, the earthly man, Netzach
and the abstract mind, the heavenly man, Tiphereth.

And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. - 1 Corinthians 15:49

And no [earthly] man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even [Tiphereth] the Son of man [the heavenly man] which is in heaven.

And as Moses lifted up the [brazen] serpent in the wilderness [by means of Alchemy], even so must [Tiphereth] the Son of man [the heavenly man] be lifted up [through Alchemy]: That whosoever [earthly man] believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son [Chokmah], that whosoever [earthly man] believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son [Chokmah] into the world [of the earthly man] to condemn the world; but that the world [of Malkuth, the earthly man] through him might be saved. - John 3: 13-17

Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah,
the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book,
and to loose the seven seals thereof. - Revelation 5: 5
