There are no individuals in the mechanical kingdoms — mineral, plant, animal, intellectual animal. There is only collective mind.
To be an individual being — that is, one consciousness, integrated in one body — is something that exists only in the conscious kingdoms of nature, which are superior to the mechanical kingdoms.
In the lower kingdoms, physical bodies are like the cells of an organ: the individual cell (or physical body) is not the operating intelligence within.
Collective mind rules the lower kingdoms.
Therefore, the individual plant body is only part of a larger system.
We suffer the illusion of individuality, and project that illusion on to everything we see. We think our dog and cat are individual, and each plant has one soul. This is not the case. That is an egotistical illusion.
