I'm wondering about the different color robes, much like that of St. Benedictus. Some of them are black, brown, green and light greyish blue. Do the different colors symbolize a higher level of spirituality; and if so, what is the highest and lowest in order.

Thank you
Marie
Some spiritual traditions place great emphasis on colors. Most notably we find the three magic in the Nativity of Christ: the black, white and gold kings, representing transformations of the sexual energy through alchemy, as well as stages of spiritual development within and beyond the Venustic Initiation mentioned by Samael Aun Weor.

Black is the impure sexual material, which is polluted through fornication. White is purified sexual energy, and gold is, alchemically speaking, the gold of the spirit once the brute substance is refined through incessant metallic (energetic) transformations. The color purple results upon the completion of the great work, the resurrection of the Khrestos within us.

Also, the black king is a Bodhisattva who incarnated Christ, but has a lot of ego to annihilate. The white king is a master with no ego. A gold king is a resurrected adept like Solomon, the Solar Man.

Other traditions might have other meanings associated with different colors, but this is what predominately comes to mind.
