As to the importance of acquiring intellectual knowledge prior to the use of prayer & the definition of ''to meditate upon''

Hello.

GnosticTeachings.org has made available many enlightening and wonderful lectures. Some of these lectures endeavors in explaining the implications and meanings of the words used in different prayers and conjurations.

There are for example an article describing The Prayer of the Lord or Pater Noster.

How important is it to have this intellectual, conceptual and kabbalistic (e.g. which position on the Three of Life relates to which word/archetype) prior to performing a prayer?

E.g. One feels there is to much intellectual study and to little practice in ones life. One wishes to perform the Eucharist to gain energy to work more.
Does one then need to study these lectures in detail or is it sufficient if one prays the Pater Noster with much sincerity and longing in hearth but without really knowing the implications of its words/archetypes?

One must comprehend what one utters on a prayer, but above all sincerity and intention is what matters most!

The lectures which we gave about those prayers are the outcome of profound meditation. One needs to develop an enlighten intellect, that is, a mind illuminated by the heart.

Meditate upon everything you read.

Would you please care to further define ''meditate upon''?

I understand it as to:
Sit with a ''stabilized and clarified consciousness through profound stillness of the mind in Shamata [which takes a long time of diligent pre-elementary meditation practices to acquire]'' (Quoted from: Gnostic Meditation; The Foundation) and focus on the given subject - e.g. in this case a sentence, phrase, picture or intellectual concept from the lecture - perhaps visualizing it, and then awaiting or pleading one's innermost to show one's self what it implies (with a open and receptive mind; that is, to not be expecting anything).

Would you say this is a correct way of defining what one does when one ''meditates upon'' something? Is there something missing?

Exactly! Concentrate on the passage, and await the illumination from your Innermost that comes when you know how to focus on one passage, sentence, phrase, chapter, or concept, even visualizing the content of what you seek to understand, in order to perceive the new.
