Dear instructors,
I have noticed two different types of dreams that are the result of this practice:
1) The first is where I recognize something odd, unusual, and I instantly become convinced I am in the astral body. For instance, recognizing a person who has been dead for a long time but wondering how they are here with me. It seems in this type of dream, there is a superior form of logic and observation. Often, things are much more vivid and memorable.
2) The second is where it feels mechanical. I simply look around and then perform a jump, but do so without any true discernment. Most of the time, I land back on my feet after the jump and continue my dream unconsciously.
I am wondering, what does it mean when we have the second type of dream? Is it simply that we need to be more profound in our discernment during the day? I am having far more frequently dreams of type 2 than 1 lately and was just wondering if it is related to how I practice, since it seems to have become dull.
Another interesting observation is that dreams of either type can result in not actually succeeding in the jump test. Even if I recognize I am dreaming, sometimes after failing to float in my environment, I continue on with my dream asleep. And the inverse is sometimes true: I can float or fly in my dreams but never associate it with dreaming, which I find a bit ironic.
