The structure of your question implies that you are discouraged because of not reaching some goal you have in mind. If this is the case, then it would useful for you to meditate on those expectations in order to see if they are congruent with the teachings. In most cases, students find that when various spiritual desires are not fulfilled, those desires (which are egos) then work hard to pull the student out of Gnosis, to seek some other way of feeding themselves.

The real purpose of Gnosis is to become a better person. This should be the chief way we evaluate our "progress." The practices we do on a daily basis are in order to fuel our consciousness, so we can use that consciousness to improve our behavior.

Personally, I do not think about how long I have practiced, or how many practices I have done or am doing. I have found that practice is most effective for me if every time I practice I realize that I do not know how to practice, since I am asleep, and I start as a beginner, making sure that in each practice I am as careful, sincere, and aware as possible. This has helped me a lot, and keeps my work very fresh.

In the end, only you can evaluate the results of your practice. Time is not important. What matters is to change. I have known students who have been "in" the teaching for thirty years or more, but they have not changed at all. Sadly, they are wasting their time. They think the "years" mean something, and who they have known means something, but it means nothing at all. On the other hand, I have known students who have only been studying the teachings a short time, yet they have changed a lot, and continue to change. They are my inspiration.

In life, the only thing of importance is a radical, total and definitive change. The rest, frankly, is of no importance at all. - The Great Rebellion

In those times when my stamina weakens, I turn to these two books and read them very slowly, with a lot of meditation. It always revives me, and puts my focus back on the fundamentals.
