Venerable Instructors,

I am seeking lectures / books that specifically show steps / techniques / mantras one can use to help free themselves from drug addiction. Having browsed the forum for a while, there are many threads about the harmful nature of drug use, but not specifically what can help dissolving this issue.
A person who is addicted to a drug - should their main focus be to meditate on that addiction before they do anything else? Specifically if that person is still using drugs/ alcohol regularly, should they still meditate or would the influence of the substance make any true insight into the addiction impossible?
Any other (anecdotal?) advice would also be welcome.

Thank you for your consideration and time.

Drug rehab programs are very effective if one is serious about changing. However, during and after treatment, it is essential to meditate upon, comprehend, and eliminate the egos of addiction through deep meditation.
