Whosoever lies, sins against the Father, who is the Truth; whosoever hates, sins against the Son, who is love; and whosoever fornicates, sins against the Holy Spirit, who is chastity.

With respect to your second question, we should be wary of our desire to feel that we have "accomplished" something.

The Perfect Matrimony:
A great friend, a Resurrected Adept who currently lives in the Great Tartary, told me the following: “Before swallowing soil, one is nothing but a fool. One thinks one knows a lot but knows nothing. One only really comes to be good, when one has already swallowed soil [resurrected]; before this, one knows nothing.”
So all of us are still nothing but fools.
That said, it can be helpful to examine our mindstream. Are we increasing in compassion, generosity, kindness, and selflessness? Are we receiving the ordeals of life with patience and equanimity, both internally and externally? Are we practicing ethical discipline? Are we increasing in our capacity to pay attention to our internal and external world? Are we dedicating time and effort to the practice of meditation? Are we developing conscious comprehension of the origin, functioning, and consequences of our desires, thoughts, and impulses?
Those are all useful questions to ask. And if our answer to any of them is "no," we might want to examine what needs to change in our practice to address that.
