Greetings
I am curious to know if it’s essential to be illiterate in order for one to be self-realized? Master Samael once said that he has know many illiterate initiates who have attained mastery unlike those pseudo occultists who fill their heads with theories.
I also wanted to know why it is harmful for the mind to fill one’s mind with theories?

Intellectual culture is necessary when guided by the spirit, but is harmful when devoid of divinity.

Illiteracy is also a problem, since some level of literacy is necessary to function in our modern world.

In truth, balance is the key. It is not enough to have intellectual knowledge. What matters is comprehension.

However, the point Samael Aun Weor was making is that there are spiritual initiates who have amazing attainments, but are not intellectual people. This is not to disregard intellectual cultivation. Instead, wisdom is the important thing.

I see. I also wanted to know how can one damage one’s mind when reading a lot of theories. How is it harmful to fill up ones mind with a lot of theories considering that’s exactly what most modern schools and universities do to their students.

Learning theories exerts mental energy. Exerting too much mental energy exhausts the mind. When an engine runs without its appropriate fuel, it breaks down.

I understand now. If that’s the case then should one avoid going to places like a university as these are basically intellectual factories (as Samael sun weor puts it). Should one avoid theories and scholasticism of any kind completely? Should we instead take a vocation that involves less intellectual work and more artistic work like being a painter, graphic designer etc as opposed to being a physicist, doctor, engineer as those are intellectually demanding vocations?

Although it can be difficult, one can study at university with psychological equilibrium.

Samael Aun Weor stated that intellectual culture is necessary. The problem is that many intellectuals are devoid of spiritual insight. They do not comprehend what they know.

As for what path you should take, only your Innermost can guide you.
