Instincts vs Ego

Hi Instructors,

What is the difference between animal instincts and Ego?

I assume animals don't have the ego?

I ask because I have observed behavior in animals that are very similar to the egos that are In humans.

Here are a few examples I have seen:

1) At the zoo, I witnessed two brother gorillas living in the same den. One of the brothers consumed and protected all of the food and even attacked the other one when it tried to eat some. It did not allow the other one to have even a single bite. It appeared to resemble egos of domination, control, superiority, anger, etc.

2) I have seen many dogs humping blankets and soft toys etc. It appears to resemble the ego of lust, masturbation, etc.

3) I have seen various animals who only mate with the biggest or strongest or brightest looking animal of the species. It appears to resemble lust, superiority, etc.

Animal instinct is ego, desire, attachment, craving, aversion, self, collective mind, whatever synonyms we want to use to label the same phenomenon.

Animals have ego, some less (since they are still evolving) and some worse than us (due to devolution).

At what point does the ego incorporate into an evolution animal? Is it related to the development of the intellect/mind?

Is there a point where it develops enough intellect/mind for the ego to be born within?

Animal ego is developed through procreation, fornication, or orgasm. Animals do not have intellect, but collective mind, which eventually develops into intellect when graduating into the humanoid kingdom.
