Hi Instructors,

To what extent should a serious Gnostic student be investing energy into influencing man-made laws to reflect divine laws within politics and within individual relationships and conversations.

- Or should I not engage in such activities until I have fully eliminated the ego?

- Or is our world "so far gone" so to speak that it is a waste of time and energy to expend energy on such things?

For example, the current man-made laws in the country within which I reside allow abortion.

To what extent should I invest energy into influencing that law to change to reflect divine law within politics and within individual relationships and conversations?

Thank you kindly,

Samael was quite clear that his work had both a spiritual and a social component. Samael even wrote several books, among them The Social Christ and The Social Transformation of Humanity, that focus on the social aspects of his mission and the building blocks for a better society. He wrote in The Revolution of the Dialectic:

Avatars [messengers] cannot forget the social matter; this is why Quetzalcoatl manifested himself in two aspects: the social and the psychological.

In my case I have been concerned with these two aspects: human problems (intended to be solved by means of the revolution of the consciousness in a dialectic manner) and the problems of capital and labor (intended to be solved by means of POSCLA).

However, just a little further down in the same chapter, he said the following:

Disgracefully, the younger Gnostic brethren have not studied; they have not lived my doctrine which I have delivered throughout so many years in order for them to attain the psychological liberation. Thus, they themselves have wanted to sabotage the Great Work of the White Brotherhood...

We have delivered the keys of revolutionary psychology and of POSCLA. However, through them, we do not want to climb to positions; we do not want to live on the national budget either. The only thing that we want is to be useful to humanity, to serve by giving psychological norms which I myself have experienced so that the intellectual animal can achieve integral revolution...

The mission of an Avatar is not only related with religious matters but it also includes the political and psychological matters of nations.

So by neglecting the psychological components of his teachings, many Gnostic students sabotage the social aspect as well.

I do not know what the political situation is like in your country. In my country, I have observed that far too often political discourse gets trapped within identification and the battle of the opposites, and that many with good intentions often make the social situation worse by spreading negative emotions or pouring energy into harmful psychological structures.

This does not mean we have to completely eliminate our ego in order to contribute positively to humanity. Even Samael did not have the ego 100% eliminated during most of his ministry. However, when our ignorance is so deep (as it is for many of us) that even when we attempt to help we actually cause more harm, that is a good indication that we should take a step back and remove the wooden beam from our own eye so we can see clearly to remove the spec of dust from the eye of our neighbor (cf. Matthew 7:5).

A social transformation must begin with a psychological transformation, and a psychological transformation must begin with ourselves.
