I was just listening to "The elements of spiritual growth" lecture and I have a question: The lecturer states that an ordeal may be in a dream. He then states that if you are running and can't move, it may mean that you are weighed down, etc. So do the ordeals happen in the internal planes, physical plane, or both? Or are does the internal plane just reflect what's going on in the physical world? Do the ordeals we face in the internal planes CAUSE things to happen in the physical?

As a side note: I have had dreams of water, floods, waves, boats, etc. dominating every night for as long as I can remember. I'm sure I need to meditate on this (as is the usual advice ;)) but how else could I approach that in light of the 'ordeal' concepts?

Ordeals within the internal planes correspond to events within the physical world, but in symbolic fashion. These tests are administered in relation to the psychological work a disciple is performing in Malkuth. Remember that Malkuth is the amalgamation or receptacle of forces from the entire Tree of Life: every cosmic energy that exists in the Initiatic Kabbalah is received by the feminine Sephirah Malkuth.

Therefore, internal ordeals represent difficulties that we must learn to overcome in our physical existence, and if we face a specific ordeal related to the elements, this signifies with meridian clarity the very factors we must work against in order to achieve spiritual transformation within our practical, daily life.

When interpreting dreams, we must analyze 1) the emotional and psychological impact of the experience, 2) the Kabbalistic symbols represented in the dream, and 3) the situation, drama or context in which those symbols unfold. All three factors in their conjunction are essential for uncovering the intuitive significance of any internal experience.

Dreams associated with waters have many meanings, and will vary in accordance with the context of the experience. Water typically relates with sexuality; therefore, to ride a boat in stormy waters may indicate that the waters of sexuality are disturbed by animal passion and must be calmed. Waves and turbulence represent the disturbances in the mind through the lustful psycho-sexual currents of the ego. The boat is the arc of Noah, or the mystery of the Great Arcanum that can help lift one out of the floods of perdition.

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!"
