There is something about this book that seems off. Why is there so much focus on money and materialism? I mean I'm pretty poor and would love to have more money to work with, but using the power of the mind to pursue material wealth seems contradictory to every other book. I thought we were renouncing desire, not feeding it.

In this world everybody is after money, sadly they ignore that money comes according to karma. So, sooner or later they will realize it, if they enter into the path. The book "Introduction to Gnosis" is a basic primer in teaching the knowledge, once we understand it more clearly and profoundly, we realize that there are many laws involve which affect our financial statutes.

Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed?
For after all these things do the Gentiles [none initiates] seek: for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. - Matthew 6: 31-34

Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah,
the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book,
and to loose the seven seals thereof. - Revelation 5: 5

Okay, I tried to avoid sharing too much personal specifics but reading this book is just throwing me for a loop. I read it once before on my own and am now reading it again with my wife.

So for example, for as long as we have been together we have always been just short of what we need to stay current on rent and utilities. We've found that it doesn't matter if we adjust our monthly expenses because the income gets adjusted right along with it. In other words, we cut our monthly necessities down by half. Then I get less work, or some unexpected expense happens and we are left just short of what we need. So it doesn't matter if we get into 3 bedroom or a studio, we always have just under what we need.

We're reading this book and it says get money so you can live. You should own a house, get money to help people, etc. Buy lottery tickets during the the tattva apas. Get money to dress nicely. It would consume all of my time to achieve all of that. When can I meditate if I'm working all the time? It doesn't matter anyway because we would always be just short of what we need and get behind and owe late fees. I'd rather just be done with it, I don't care about owning a house or having nice looking clothes. I'm not going to covet looking sharp so people have a good impression of Gnosis. Why is Samael so worried about appearances? I just want to wake up so I can be done with this. Owning a house, dressing nicely aren't going to do that for me. I mean I don't want to be done with it so I can abandon it. I would like like to help humanity but if I'm sitting around using the power the mind to buy a house what good is that?

We've always been short of money but we've always had a roof, food, and good enough clothes. We're never certain if we will get evicted or have to move in with parents or have enough for gas, etc. But some how it always works out in the end. Better late than never. I just thought we were getting to a point where we were accepting our financial lot in life and this book is dragging up money again. So, I guess I don't know what to do now. Be content or spend energy for more? Someday I would like to get a place where people could meditate and learn the doctrine, but is that covetous? Nothing fancy, just a peaceful warm place for our family and space where others could enjoy peace and get learning. I'm not advanced, but I could share the basics with people right? I mean isn't it our duty to work for others?

Well, right now that doesn't seem to answer my question. So I'll meditate upon it and get back to you.

We must move only under the impulses of our Innermost [God]. We must be content with the rights of "Canchorrita."

The rights of "Canchorrita" are bread, clothing, and shelter.

A highly evolved humanity lives on the planet Venus. The inhabitants of Venus, the Dawn Star, are true artists. Each Venusian family builds their beautiful mansion, orchard, and garden. This is the cosmic order. When the inhabitants of the Earth submit themselves to this cosmic order, the economic problems of the world will disappear forever.

The human being has the right to live differently, with dignity and beauty, because he is not a swine. However, he must be satisfied with the rights of "Canchorrita."

Covetousness, anger, and lust have their den in the mind. Covetousness, anger, and lust lead souls towards the Abyss.

The human being is not the mind. The mind is merely one of the four bodies of sin. When the human being becomes identified with his mind, he falls into the abyss. The mind is merely a donkey upon which we must ride in order to enter the Heavenly Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. There is the need to drive the mind by means of willpower. When the mind besieges us with useless representations, we must command the mind like this:

"Mind, take this representation away from me. I do not accept it from you. You are my slave, and I am your lord."

When the mind besieges us with reactions of hatred, fear, wrath, appetites, greed, lust, etc., we must talk to the mind like this:

"Mind, take these things away from me. I do not accept these things from you. I am your lord, and you must obey me, because you are my slave until the end of time."

Now, we need human beings with Thelema, human beings with willpower, who do not allow themselves to be enslaved by their minds. - Samael Aun Weor

I guess I've always read that as following the laws of the land. Like paying taxes. But would exerting my energy for financial gain be rendering to Caesar? I guess if by Caesar, we are referring to my material nature. Is this how one is to understand it at this level?

So if money is an instrument of Karma, and I have very little, why would I waste my time focusing on it? It's my Karma to be poor, I would rather pay the Karma. Do you see what I mean?

I get that this book was written for people who are still very attached to material things. But, telling them to buy lottery tickets? I mean, I guess I'll try it. It would be nice to have money to put together a local facility to spread the doctrine. But that would mean I would be dealing with banks, taxes, other types of criminals. I guess that would be my sacrifice maybe.

I don't know man. Lottery tickets? I've avoided that sort of thing my whole life. I just kind of accepted that it was my karma to never get ahead financially. To always struggle and to learn to humble myself. I probably caused financial oppression in my previous lives. But, hey maybe I've learned my lesson and now I can be a good steward of money. I know there is definitely a cause besides personal gain that I would love to contribute more to. I've never really been able to say that before. I mean I've stuck money in the collection plate yeah, but that was more naive than good stewardship. I don't know, maybe it is time I stop being poor. I would just rather experience the fruit of the Spirit than the fruit of Mammon.

Do you see where I'm coming from?

In these times, money serves as a karmic instrument, in order to reward or punish humans.

Before money existed upon the earth, the Devas [the Elohim] governed the world’s economy.

When money stops existing, they will continue, as always, to distribute the world’s economy, in accordance with the law of karma.- Samael Aun Weor

He wrote this book to (1) communicate to those not yet ready for the deeper knowledge, and (2) help people establish a foundation for living life in this world.

If you are poor and without reliable food, shelter and clothing, then you will have to expend your time and energy acquiring them. It is better to have the basic necessities already cared for, so that you then have time and energy to work on yourself.

As said in the book:

"Each person is what he wants to be with the power of the mind. Each person projects into the world of cosmic mind what he is and what he wants to be. The projections of the mind physically crystallize and we then have in the physical world our rich or miserable, happy or disgraceful life."

"Every human being needs to learn a profession in order to be able to live." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony

"Do not worry; cultivate the habit of being happy." - Samael Aun Weor
