Both are important. You cannot have faith (confidence born from direct experience) if you lack concentration, the ability to perform the practices consciously. However, we are inspired to develop concentration as we receive comprehension and understanding, strengthening our faith in the work.
For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully I found that in reality God was the seeker and I the sought. -Bayazid al-Bastami
