Greetings dear instructors,

Recently I have been struggling with my spiritual development. I know that there is a lot more that I could be doing, but I feel as if my menstrual cycle throws me off (I have begun an awareness log throughout so I can be aware of times I am more/less agitated in the month/or affected by hormonal changes). I meditate every morning along with logging my dreams in my journal, and I try to be mindful throughout my day, but as my husband and I’s small business has increased in success, we’ve found ourselves extremely busy, barely able to take one day off a week, and also very tired. I have felt that a mixture of this tiredness and business has made efforts to develop a lot harder, as it feels like I’m quite detached from reality and almost like my mind has an obstacle within it that I cannot pass through. I’ve also found that as I’m trying to work, although I’m trying to be quiet and methodical while doing so (we own a small furniture making business) I haven’t been unable to think of theoretical scenarios that are ridiculous. I have tried to analyse them and see what egos that they hide within them, which has brought to my attention some aspects that I will be able to utilise, however this obstacle I mentioned stops me being able to do anything with this information. For example, my meditations have been weak as it feels as if it’s physically in the way of my development, and my monkey mind has been rampant.

While in my prayers I have also been close to tears, as I have been thinking more about how in my childhood I was exposed to violence and pornography, and I feel shame that I know is also affecting me negatively. I don’t know what to do. I have bought some sulphur powder and also some incense charcoal, do you think perhaps anything in the astral realm is responsible for this? Foreseeably I can’t even work out when I’ll be available for nine consecutive days to cleanse my home either.

I’m sorry for this ramble. I just feel stuck and there’s nothing else I even intend to do than return to our divine parents.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you so much,
Saffron

During your cycle, do not eat meat or submerge your body in water (ie shower quickly or towel bathe). This can reduce its intensity.

The basis of my advice here is to set priorities and limits. If your spiritual life is important, then make it so. As a business owner, it is hard to set hours and limits, but it is essential for success. So: decide on your working hours, and stick to them. If you are not prioritizing meditation time, then you do not value it as much as other activities. It is that simple. Only you can change that.

An excellent way to reduce stress is to make a list of what needs to be done, prioritize them, and scratch them off as you go. Once they are written down, you do not need to think about them AT ALL, EVER. :)

During your workday, firstly do your best to stay fully relaxed. At any moment you find tension, pause, breathe, and relax.

Next, treat each activity as meditation. Do only what you are doing, with full concentration. Do not let your mind wander at all. Do not think about the next task. Do not allow anything to distract you. Stick to your plan, your list, and your schedule. The only exception to this is if someone is going to die. You can stop to save their life. But in most business scenarios, things are not as dramatic as the mind makes it seem.

Do not play music, tv, or other distracting "background" noise. Turn work into a quiet, sacred, serene sacrifice.

If possible, restrict use of electronics to certain times. For instance, instead of always checking messages, calls, and mail, do so only at specified intervals. This way nothing distracts you while you are concentrating on a task.

At first, it all of this may seem slower, but you will quickly find that you become much more effective, efficient, and relaxed.

It is also very important to eat and drink properly through the day.

If possible, take a few moments every couple of hours to close your eyes and empty your mind completely. The more you can do this, the more you can change the trajectory of your working day.

If you want your meditation to be better, fix your moment to moment awareness first.

Thank you Alexis, you have helped immeasurably.

I agree totally to set my day up point to point will be most beneficial, I am eager to start work on this and will do so now.

Likewise, I am vegan so luckily I have done half of the requirements for the cycle!

All my best to you Alexis, thank you so much.

All of the best to you,
Saffron
