Greetings,

Praying God is keeping you all well. How do we discern which movies about Shakespearian plays are beneficial from any that are harmful?

Are all movies based on the plays of William Shakespeare beneficial? For example, I recently watched MacBeth, with Michael Fassbender, (2015), and it did a number on me.

Only a few Shakespearian dramas, in the form of modern movies with esoteric themes, are listed on the post Esoteric Movies.

Would it just be better to watch the plays online?

It would probably be helpful to read the plays, but I am getting read-out.

I prefer the movies over the plays yet can get used to the plays, if that is what is best.

If you could help me out with this, I would much appreciate it. Be well!

Sincerely,
Adam

Every pure teaching that has been given to humanity has been corrupted, adulterated, and misinterpreted, such as the Bible, various scriptures, poetry, literature, etc. However, this does not mean we should not pursue such sources for inspiration and wisdom. What it requires is discrimination, which no one can give to you, but must be developed on your own.

The same with Shakespeare's plays. You can find many great performances and interpretations, either staged or filmed. However, do not expect to find absolute purity there, and be ready to transform it with an intuitive and alert consciousness.

Personally, I have watched stage performances and films based off of Shakespeare. They all have value if you know how to discriminate what you perceive. What these plays require is profound attention, awareness, and intuition. While reading the scripts can be beneficial, these are plays meant to be performed, therefore watch them.
