Yearning is a better word to describe the spiritual longings of the consciousness, the aspirations of the soul to achieve liberation.
Craving, desire, attachment, and covetousness is ambition: the sentiment of acquisition as a means of fulfillment, which, when reached, wants more. This the nature of desire; it is never satiated, but only grows when fed.
We must learn to seek with the consciousness, not desire. This you can only learn through examining your quality of mind and level of being from moment to moment and within meditation.
