Hello all

"If you would operate by means of our bodies, take a fierce grey wolf, which though on account of its name it be subject to the sway of warlike Mars, is by birth the offspring of ancient Saturn, and found in the valleys and mountains of the world, where he roams about savage with hunger. Cast to him the body of the King, and when he has devoured it, burn him entirely to ashes in a great fire. By this process the King will be liberate; and when it been performed thrice the Lion has overcome the wolf, and will find nothing more to eat in him. Thus our Body has been rendered fit for first stage of our work."

Could you explain this, what is the wolf here?

Also, when concerning the 7 metals, are there degrees of understanding here? For example, 7 bodies, 7 virtues, 7 vices, etc. And if possible, could you elaborate a little for me, as when I read Hartmann, or the glorian website on this matter, I seem to get a little confused on this matter.

Much thanks,

OoA :)

"If you would operate by means of our bodies, take a fierce grey wolf [symbol of the law of karma], which though on account of its name it be subject to the sway of warlike Mars [severity, Geburah], is by birth the offspring of ancient Saturn [death (of the ego), Binah/Holy Spirit], and found in the valleys and mountains of the world, where he roams about savage with hunger. Cast to him the body of the King [the ego is sometimes symbolized by the Pharaoh, false king of our psyche], and when he has devoured it [the ego], burn him [karma] entirely to ashes in a great fire [sexual magic]. By this process the [real] King [of our soul, Tiphereth] will be liberated; and when it been performed thrice [in the three brains] the Lion [Katancia, karmic law for initiates] has overcome the wolf [karma for ordinary people], and will find nothing more to eat in him. Thus our Body has been rendered fit for first stage of our work."

Yes, the law of 7 has many levels of meaning. They are all related in many intuitive ways.

"If thou canst not make thine own self what thou desireth, how shalt thou be able to fashion another to thine own liking. We are ready to see others made perfect, and yet we do not amend our own shortcomings."

Wow, funny you should put it this way! I have been meditating a lot on it and this was something that I realised! I had been trying to understand them intellectually and not feeling them with my intuition, and then you say this! So thank you, it is very relevant and helpful for me.

And regarding your parentheses on the wolf, that is very interesting, as I have definitely read somewhere about the wolf being the lower karma, and yet I cannot retrace the steps to where I had learned this! Maybe it is on the site somewhere? Who knows! But l understand now. Sometimes I find it difficult to contextualise these alchemical formulas, however, the lesson to learn is intuition!

Thank you for you reply :) very helpful!

One more thing to mention: the Lion is also a symbol of Christ.

"If thou canst not make thine own self what thou desireth, how shalt thou be able to fashion another to thine own liking. We are ready to see others made perfect, and yet we do not amend our own shortcomings."
