Is it significant that Islam is associated with the crescent moon and the archangel Gabriel? I have also noticed this tradition seems to reference the night more than others. For instance, The Night Journey, The Night of Power, and eating only during the night during Ramadan. This tradition also uses a strictly lunar calendar (compared to the Chinese for example, which mixes in aspects of solar calendars). Perhaps not everything I pointed out here is important, nonetheless, is there a meaning behind Islam’s association with the moon? In the gnostic tradition the moon is seen as a symbol of mechanicity much of the time, so I am curious of Islam’s relation to it. Thank you!
