I have been working with a therapist for the last year, trying to understand myself and my incessant cycle of suffering that I very clearly propagate myself.

My therapist has introduced to me the concept of shadow work as theorized by Carl Jung and has advised me to work on uncovering my shadows and integrating them into myself. I can see the parallels between “shadows” and “egos” or the lower soul. While listening to a lecture I came across the following that really stuck with me.

“If one attempts to negotiate or reconcile the lower soul, one is doomed to perdition.”

My question being, by doing “shadow work” and attempting to integrate my shadows am I reconciling my lower soul? Should I instead be attempting to destroy my shadows?

Thank you.

Every ego traps some portion of our consciousness, which is the light of being. Therefore, integrate your consciousness through comprehending and annihilating the ego, the shadow of the Tree of Life.

People who strengthen desire, ego, or conditions of mind are known as sorcerers, demons, or black magicians.

Carl Jung made some keen observations, so there is value to his work. We just tend to be more specific and clear regarding how to integrate oneself.

Thank you Almustafa. So my “shadow” is in reality an ego that has trapped consciousness and the integration of the shadow is freeing the consciousness.

Correct!

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!"
