How can desire be a bad thing entirely? Don't we have to STRONGLY desire the awakening of consciousness in order to have the willpower needed to forbear from harmful habits? It is very confusing and rather frustrating when I hear we should annihilate desire, when I am constantly trying to increase my desire to be consistent with these studies.
I feel its better If we say having desires of a lower nature are negative BUT not desire as a whole. You say we must have willpower, how would I find the will to do be chaste, to stop ejaculation if I do not whole-heartedly desire to be chaste? How would I structure my busy day to include meditation if I do not strongly desire to awaken my consciousness?
Having the right desires are good.
Desire is ego. But this is not to say that one should not develop yearning, spiritual longings, and the aspiration of the soul. All of this has to do with inquietudes.

The ego is what becomes frustrated when its desires are not met. However, the consciousness is aspiration and contentment, which are positive. Discriminate between the two through analytical meditation.
