Whenever I have read them (The Desert Fathers) they have been very inspiring for me! They speak of such a beautiful and pure Christianity that reaches the soul in such a practical manner. I especially loved The Ladder of Divine Ascent by John Climacus! I also have a book of sayings by the desert fathers and it has such a different flavour and beauty compared to modern Christianity.

Were the desert fathers Gnostics?

Kind regards,

Yes they were. See how:

Joyful in hope, suffering in tribulation, be thou constant in thy prayer.

Benedictis, qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!"
