Hi Instructors,

I have been reading the Study Quran recently as recommended in the past by Al Mustapha and they talk of the Al-jafr which provides the numerical values of the letters of the Arabic text. I want know it's similarity and/or differences with the Kabbalah. Is it worth a separate study and if you could provide some recommended resources. I know from my studies the Zohar was kept by the Muslim scholars of Al Andalus and wonder if the al-jafr is an improvement of this tradition.

You can study the Abjad system in the works of Ibn Arabi, specifically The Meccan Revelations. It is basically the same teaching: the mystical study of numbers as outlined in Al-Jafr, but in Arabic. See also Idries Shah's explanation of the Abjad system in his seminal book, The Sufis.
