Is there a form of Askokin that is not a "blood sacrifice" that we as students can use to feed the gods of nature and pay what we owe? Also, is this a way to pay Karma?

Yes, there is: the elimination of the ego. Every defect that we eliminate restores balance to our inner and outer nature, and also pays our karma.

In addition to that, we should expend energy sacrificing for humanity; in other words "shedding our blood" to help others. Sacrifice implies strong effort, pain, giving up what we want for ourselves, etc. Sacrifice is not easy, but is another way to pay what we owe, and balance our debts with the law.
