I've read that giving someone a cross as a gift can stimulate certain karmas for the person receiving the gift.

Is this the case with any gifts? For example electronics, toys, utility items etc?

A cross or crucifix has very particular associations that are not comparable to a Game Boy or a hammer. If you want someone to have fun or build a house, you can definitely present them with those aforementioned gifts. A crucifix or cross, however, represents suffering on the path and has different significance for someone who is working seriously with initiation.

Thank you, the reason I ask is because it was stated by another instructor in a different thread that a knife given as a gift can stimulate certain karmas related to conflicts, disagreements etc so naturally I was thinking that perhaps giving gifts of anything could have some sort of karmic effect depending on the type of gift given. However it seems from your response that this may not be the case.

I've given a cross as a gift to a close family member but had no idea at the time that it could do that, it was a cross that i wore for a time and gave it away as I replaced it with another one of a different design.
