disturbing sound

I am new to all of this so I obviously do not understand everything. I have been putting my headphones on at night as I go to sleep and listen to the streaming lectures. While I was doing this I got completely spooked by a bell following a very deep voice chanting or something. It felt demonic. I have been trying to overlook it but everytime it comes on it bothers me. Can someone please explain this to me? My husband listened and through the headphones. He cautioned me to be careful. I love the teaching but am having a hard time reconciling this sound. Can someone please explain this.
We can understand your feelings. The chanting is traditional low voice chanting from Tibet. They are prayers from the Grammy award-winning album from Lama Tashi (we linked to it below). The Tibetan lamas sing in these tones for several reasons, and it is understandable that it would be unnerving to Westerners. However, it is far from demonic music. The prayers he sings are ancient prayers calling for help from the Buddhas on behalf of all those who are suffering. The low tones stimulate the heart in a very powerful way, if you can relax and let go of the cultural anxiety of hearing the low tones.

Demonic music is what is playing on the radio and YouTube, which celebrates lust, alcohol, greed, gluttony, anger, etc. Demonic music hypnotizes through pleasure and repetition, and incites selfish, pleasure-seeking behavior.

On the other hand, truly spiritual music invites introspection and awareness of the suffering of others.

Let us know which lecture you heard it in, and the approximate time (5 minutes in, etc) and we will investigate. We suspect it is the annoying doorbell in the classroom.

It's not during class. It usually follows right after a lecture. It sounds like a monk doing a chant but it sounds very demonic. After the chant follows classical music then another lecture. I'm worried because the chant is very low and sounds very disturbing. It has freaked out every member of my family and now my husband thinks I may be getting into something evil and has cautioned me in my undertaking of these studies. I have been trying to overlook it every time it comes on, but it's still just not sitting right with my spirit. I don't know how I can continue the studies if I don't understand fully what this chant is and why it sounds demonic. Maybe I am not understanding something about it. I'm really hoping you can help me with this. I love these studies so far and I really don't want to walk away from them, but I cannot have fear attached to them. I look forward to your reply.
